Technology@beehaw.org•Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week
2·2 months agoHonestly the others in this comment section would be better to ask about accessing Jellyfin remotely, but I can tell you what I know.
If you go the VPN route, Tailscale is typically recommended, which appears to be free for personal use. It looks like these are the docs for using Tailscale with Jellyfin.
I host a couple services for my family using a reverse proxy (nginx through SWAG), and I have a free domain name with duckdns. This is not as secure as the above tailscale solution, but has worked for me so far. This is likely how I would add Jellyfin to my workflow, since I already have a reverse proxy and domain name.

Technology@beehaw.org•Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week
15·2 months agoI don’t run Jellyfin, but I’ve considered it. From what I understand, you have to set up a reverse proxy or something like Tailscale in order to access it remotely. Doing that safely can take a bit of learning, but the only part that could cost money is getting a domain name.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are the demands of the No Kings protests? What's the plan if they win?
24·3 months agoIn that metaphor, though, the passengers have agreed to prevent the bus from driving off the cliff. From my experience with the No Kings protests, there isn’t an overarching demand other than “Maybe don’t be so terrible” and a general expression of displeasure.

Looks like on low settings with FDR and GE Proton people are hitting relatively solid 30 fps. Better performance than I’d expect, but not quite what I’d want for such an action oriented game.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•What are some games with absolutely fantastic soundtracks?
3·5 months agoI love so many video game soundtracks, so I’ll try to just list a few:
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Monster Hunter: Tri (wonderful balance of stirring and cozy)
- Bloodborne (really almost all of FromSoft’s soundtracks, but especially this one)
I also really like Hollow Knight and Hades soundtracks, and of course DOOM (2016) has already been mentioned.

I’ve been playing a randomized (and slightly higher level enemy Pokémon) run of Shield after beating it once originally and being quite disappointed, and I’ve enjoyed that pretty thoroughly as well. The return of follower Pokémon in the DLC is something I’ve been asking for since HG/SS.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Pokémon games have become consistently ugly, and it's alright to wish they weren'tEnglish
41·11 months agoThat would be more valid here if Pokémon were focused on being fun. As a lifelong fan, modern Pokémon games are typically both ugly and not terribly fun. They make decent “turn off your brain” games, but the quality of game did not go up with the decrease in graphics.

I have favorites from every generation, but I’ll try to narrow it down to a few:
I have a lot more favorites, and don’t even get me started on legedaries and mythicals. I used to be really big into collecting those.
