  • Bit surprising tbh. Guess the machine must have been broken or something.

I live in NL and thus frequent AH. I can literally pay with any (virtual) debit and/or credit card incl Revolut. They accept it all.

AH is also the largest supermarket in NL, especially in the most touristic places of NL, it would be surprising if they wouldn’t facilitate internationals paying at their stores. They would lose out on millions per year.

In any case looking forward to Wero as well.

  • Set a vision for the EU, where do we want to win.

    1. Encourage entrepreneurship (fiscally and loosen regulatory pressure)
    2. Harmonise and integrate European financial markets
    3. Encourage (fiscally) public and institutions to invest into European companies, small and large

These three together should get our future back on track, and make us prosperous again. Other less urgent focus areas:

lower energy costs and improve the net, share the burden and energy between countries Improve train transportation between countries (nice to have) Increase barriers to entry for non productive, non skilled migrants. Increase fines and deductions from European fund distributions to European countries that completely disobey and try to demolish the union from the inside (Hungary)

  • At least they make it a public debate. The US has no problem doing it anyway, on own citizens on citizens from abroad…

Not speaking of the companies themselves selling your data to anyone and everyone for the highest bid 😂 You might think as long as your name is not attached it is meta data, but give it a thought, what 2 or 3 fields of metadata would you need to identify you. Home address, work address, age, employer, ethnicity, gender, family status, your typical routes, your preferences in every category of goods and services based on online behaviour. They sell it all….

And we care about our governments potentially looking into it… I would start by blocking Meta platforms, TikTok and others to send any of our data outside of our jurisdictions. I would stress to host the data in European datacenters.

    This is the typical response.

Do you have the same concerns when using email clients or when using SMS? ;-) Probably not.

Also, technically this problem is very easily solved by making a note in the app if you are going to send something, or receive something, from a non secure app. Like with email.

However tech platforms do not want to accommodate this because it breaks their monopoly. They rather push the narrative they need to complete lock in of the user to secure comms. It is NOT about security for them, they even sell all your data via the back door 😂, it is all about keeping their monopoly and monetising the shit out of that position.

DMA should open up the ecosystem and stop the monopoly of WhatsApp!

Let’s make WhatsApp and messaging in general a service like email, where you can message/email between messaging/email clients (like I can email from Proton to a Gmail user). Why is it impossible to message from my preferred app to another app user. This is technically very easy, and safe. It just that it would ruin WhatsApp’s empire because it brakes the lock-in.

This would mean the whole Meta universe falls apart, which would be awesome as they do not give a crap about anyone’s privacy or rights. they don’t comply by the law and don’t pay taxes.

    Let’s break it open!
