3·2 years agoSame, i used to sub with Spotify, in the last 2 years i’ve been on Apple music, they even have better collection and playlists of non-english music. Spotify is full of rap music and so hard to discover anything else unless you know what you are searching for.
RIP kevin

Technology@beehaw.org•What would be the long-term impact on the internet and society if Google were to completely fail?
5·2 years agoAs of today it wouldn’t be that hard, alternatives are available and some of them are as good but don’t have the same market share.

Technology@beehaw.org•You can't post ass, Threads is doomedEnglish
1·2 years agoPeople are moving away from twitter because it’s full of spam, nudity and bullying. That doesn’t makes twitter any unique and/or worthy, that makes it toxic place to be in.
Freedom of speech and (nudity, bullying) are not the same thing.

Technology@beehaw.org•Making sense of the EU’s fight for user-replaceable smartphone batteriesEnglish
8·2 years agothe main benefit of this, is that you can self-replace the battery when it becomes excessively degraded and doesn’t hold charge as good as a healthy battery. otherwise you’d still need a power-bank for your other tech, such as AirPods or similar stuff.

Web Development@programming.dev•Google Domains shutting down, assets sold and being migrated to Squarespace
1·2 years agoname.com is really a solid choice, I have used them for over 15 years now, but they are definitely not cheap.

Web Development@programming.dev•Google Domains shutting down, assets sold and being migrated to Squarespace
1·2 years agoSeems like they want to focus more on AI, IoT and smartphones.
I just tried Calckey it looks more polished UI-wise than any other Fediverse platform I have seen so far. I think Calckey would make an excellent social platform for the public (non-tech) users.
Pixelfed is also an excellent Instagram alternative, it reminds me of how Instagram used to be before the Facebook acquisition. Their iOS beta app is in good shape as well.

Programming@programming.dev•Lemmy is in serious need of more devs [CROSS POST]English
13·2 years agoWhat about trying to contact rust devs from outside the fediverse/lemmy community? Maybe some of them don’t know about the lemmy project, but they’ll find it interesting and join the dev team.

ObsidianMD@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts about Obsidian not being Open Source?
3·2 years agoit’s easier and faster to save and search notes written in small chunks in Logseq than Obsidian IME, but the pain is when you have to write/format an article-like content.

youll have to pay with a cc based in, say the UK, so they’ll automatically change your location back to the UK. doesn’t work anymore.
