Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•YouTube ads have ruined the good, old-fashioned Rick Roll.
1·1 year agoI don’t understand why people have to watch those ads. It’s one websearch that will save you a lot of time.
I use Mozilla for desktop and brave for Android to listen to videos while the screen is off.

5·1 year agoIt is! And for most games i would never consider it. Poe is different though, it gave me a lot of special moments and memories that I never felt in other games.
I played for around 5000 hours since 2014 and payed 122€ which I find very fair considering I wouldn’t need to invest more for the next years to come. I have every stash tab and enough space that I would ever need.
So 30 bucks feels alright for a teaser into a game that I might be able to play for another 20 years.

Als aktuelles Beispiel: Stalker 2 auf ukrainisch mit englischen Untertiteln.
Deutsch wird sehr selten genutzt. Gothic war eine der wenigen Reihen die ich so durchgespielt habe.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 releases today at 18:00 Kyiv time.
6·1 year agoThere is some shit they are pulling. The game is unoptimized and contains a lot of bugs. Won’t keep me from buying and trying it tho. The download is almost finished.
At best I have a good experience playing the long awaited descendant of the stalker series.
At worst I gotta wait for some weeks and supported a studio that made their game despite epidemic and war.

50·1 year agoCast iron skillets.
If you season and clean them the right way they will outlive you.
I’m using the same one that my parents owned for 30 years and hope I will get another 30 years of usage out of it.

Also watching from Europe it seemed very strange to see that biden was still first in line until it was obvious for everybody he’s not fit for the job cognitively. And maybe that wasn’t even the main problem. He just couldn’t perform anymore and failed to present himself accordingly.
Harris felt a little like an emergency choice but it was refreshing to see someone not clearly in decline due to old age.
I would have voted for her because she’s not trump, not because I think she would have been a great president.
I just don’t understand how it’s possible that such old fucks are the candidates and I struggle to believe that they are capable of complex decisions.
Who fucking guides them and tells them what to do and why do I have a tinfoil hat on?

Technology@lemmy.world•Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’English
2·1 year agoThanks for easing my mind a little. You definetly did in perspective to labor.
You also reminded me I already had my first encounter with a callcenter AI by telekom and it was just as useless as the human equivalent, they seem to get similar training!
I just hope it won’t hinder or replace interhuman connection on a larger scale cause in this sphere mediocrity might be enough and we are already lacking there.
The albeit small but present virtual girlfriend culture in Japan really shocked me and I feel we are not far away from things like AI-droid wives for example.
I’m so happy I don’t give a fuck about looking cool or having nice effects in a game.
The only one I ever spend more bucks than I had to is Path of Exile. And the supporter packs give you your whole worth of money spend as premium currency plus you get the usual skins, emotes and tracking tools.
I totally feel that I’m okay with buying functional stuff like inventory space if the system itself feels fair.
In 10 years and around 5000h (only game I play except tarkov for a while) in I spend 122€ so a mount for 90 bucks seems crazy.

2·1 year agoI admit I understand nothing about ai and haven’t used it in any way nor do I plan to. It feels wrong for me and I believe it might fuck us harder than social media ever could.
But the pictures it creates, the stories and conversations don’t seem like hot air. And I guess, compared to the internet we are at the stage where the modem is still singing the songs of its people. There is more to come.
I heard it can code at a level where entry positions might be in danger to be swapped for ai. It detects cancer visually, recognizes people by the way they walk in China. Also I fear that vulnerable persons might fall for those conversation bots in a world where there is less and less personal contact.
Gotta admit I’m a little afraid it will make most of us useless in the future.

2·1 year agoIt was not ours to decide after the war but its an interesting thought. I’d like to see the outcome of that alternative timeline.
Many of the administrative positions were still filled with former Nazis. Most germans in denial of what happened. Also the winning powers seemed far more interested in the spoils of war compared to a just but self-limiting gesture of goodwill.
Sketchy ground for such huge undertaking that would have made german willingness and acceptance paramount.
Also the first thing that comes to my mind is that this decision would jave encaged the victims with the perpetrators. Tough deal to sell to the world.

World News@lemmy.world•Israel May Kill Every Palestinian Left in North Gaza, UN Official WarnsEnglish
13·1 year agoMost probably suspect it’s genocide and know they, by not speaking out, at least support it passively. But it just doesn’t matter for their immediate or the near future, so nothing will happen. Thoughts and prayers…
I see two main culprits that enable Israel to eradicate the Palestinian people and their livelihood in manner and speed we see now. The US and germany. Many other western political elites seem far more divided on the topic but probably fear the backlash of speaking out.
70% of the weapons come from the US and they will never stop to supply their FOB. Democrats or republicans will veto everything and make it as hard as possible to even reach a clear global verdict on what happened and how to classify it.
Most of the remaining 30% come from germany.
Here the key argument is that Israel is worthy of unwavering support due to the historical fact of the holocaust and the inhumane acts inflicted on the Jewish population.
Scholz said recently that the security of Israel is a National interest of germany. As a german I feel this too, although for me the state of Israel and the global jewish population we did unspeakable crimes to are not necessarily the same. There are lines that can be crossed that limit my willingness of support. It’s not unconditional and they crossed them. Israel crossed them, not the jews.
I also feel past and present crimes the jewish people had to endure can be used to understand why Israel is acting the way it does but it can’t be a justification of their barbaric way of waging this war against Hamas.
In short, nothing will change. Sorry for the long reply, this shit really grinds my gears.

1·1 year agoI hope some other species can survive and don’t have to suffer by our hands anymore.
Horrible what we do to this planet, other living beings and ourselves.

And why wouldn’t you. I tend to not bite into the whole thing but suffer from occasional urges to do so.
Still remember that maybe 10 years ago on our way to Romania two grandpa’s in a restaurant in Hajdúnánás ordered some huge chives to dip in salt with their beers.
I ordered the same 10 minutes after and both gave me a drinking salute. Still eat it in summer, amazing healthy snack.
