I can attest to the high skill ceiling, felt like a complete noob for my first like 10 hours playing; That is not meant to be a discouraging statement though. I haven’t had this much fun playing an fps since the hay days of Overwatch(1).

I’d largely say no. As others have said in this thread yes other jobs also have high risk rates but I believe those are all false equivalencies. Cops have a level of power in their profession that is unlike any other job. Every one of them knows exactly what they are getting into and they agree to put your life on the line for the law. If you want to play enforcer then you get to deal with the consequences of that role. On a human level I feel empathy towards any death, I’m not a monster, but no I don’t feel any worse for them in contrast to the loss of life in any other first line job.

That is a level of ingenuity that I love to see in people. Application of it is nooot great but he’s got the spirit.

While there is definitely an oddly surprising amount of z’ers who seem to barely get tech, I would like to biasedly add that the older of us are largely tech literate, of course exceptions apply. We grew up with computers in the home and at the very least know our way around a file browser. But some folks just a few years under me don’t have any other tech then there phones and don’t seem to care or even think about pc’s.

Got a new job recently and the other person training with me didn’t own any kind of pc and said that she didn’t like them. It was weird to me I kept asking her like but what about when you need one and it didn’t seem that she ever did. As a tech addled fiend I can’t fully comprehend this, I can only get by with my phone for so long on certain tasks before I put it down and pull out my computer. But to each their own I guess?

How is it psuedo science to compare the addicting ways social media affects people and its similarity to drug addiction? It’s an analogy, obviously no one is being 100% literal.

Yeah if they hit critical mass the quality drops significantly. I’ve bookmark a handful of my niche subs that haven’t hit that point yet but I saw it all the time over the years on there. Even something as straight forward as a liminal space, not as a term but there is a lot of writings on the topic, subreddit just turns into everybody posting pictures of there closets and and any old building.

I feel crazy when I read these kinds of articles over the past few months, because I’ll have a flash back to a few years ago where the exact same shit went down. And here they go again, this time cranked to 11. The show Orange is The New Black dedicated a whole subplot in their final season back in 2019 on how ICE was operating and what they were pulling. Immigration raids disguised as police raids, the indefinite detention of nonviolent migrants, inhumane conditions in holding, insufficient medical care/attention, etc.

One scene later in the season depicts the article above exactly, a group of children being put before a judge that they couldn’t understand for many reasons; lack of representation, the language barrier, or because the kid is all of 2 years old.
