I got a kindle for Christmas and have read more in the last few months than in the last decade. I think it being a screen kinda helps, and also being able to download books instantly instead of having to go to the library or a bookstore.

Embrace the rot in my ass
I mean I talk about it every now and then, my kid was being shown those videos when they were young. I keep YouTube off any TV’s or the kids tablets because YouTube was so irresponsible. For all Disney’s and Netflix’s faults I’d much rather the kids watch something that’s been at least better curated than whatever the hell YouTube kids is.

2·2 years agoUnfortunately the law would’ve never applied to fox news, as it was broadcast only and cable was exempt. But even so nowadays so much of the information sphere is online, through Facebook, Twitter and the thousand different right wing blog news sites that you aren’t really going to be able to stop anything. The American system very dependent on the two parties having a bipartisan consensus. But after a few decades of the right wing media sphere whipping the base into frenzy after frenzy the ‘true believers’ are the ones in government now and the idea of compromise is done for.
So I took some time to look around and as far as my perspective as a non dev regular user. While this does seem like a useful tool that could be useful for someone who interacts with the command line on a infrequent basis, the drawbacks on it seem pretty big.
- Everywhere on their website seems clear that they don’t store your data, but I have trouble believing that? Why on earth they would need for you to create a account that you must log in to use the terminal if they don’t have a need to monitor your data?
- While they claim that they are intending to monetize this by charging enterprise users and letting small teams use it for free, they limit free requests to 20 per dday which seems less than useless.
- Maybe this is just some confusion since I don’t have any experience as an enterprise but it seems like it would be an unacceptable security risk having a program that it telling you that it sends telemetry back home that users are interacting with using sudo and elevated privileges. Especially when it is a closed box.
Ignoring all the reasons to be cautious and skeptical about AI in general I struggle to see the use case for this particular tool.
You haven’t lost your sense of smell have you?
I don’t know man, being poor doesn’t seem great either.

Home Improvement@lemmy.world•How to protect existing electrical wire from elements
7·2 years agoSo obviously this all isn’t very ideal but they actually made at least two mistakes here. That pipe is not rated for being outside and also Romex isn’t allowed to be used in wet areas such as underground. Only something like UF cable would be allowed to be ran buried like this.
There’s two things that you can do here, the right way and easy way. The right way would be to rip the whole wire out and run it properly. The easier way would be to kill the outlet at the breaker, disconnect the wire from the outlet and to carefully remove the pipe and replace with a PVC pipe that won’t rust. Get one from the electrical aisle because those won’t degrade in the sun.
That’s a classic, and I won’t hear one word against it.

Notably the constitution doesn’t actually require a trial of any sort. The amendment was put in after the civil war, it would have been impossible to have a trial for everyone that participated in the Confederacy. Bit of an open question how that gets determined nowadays though.
Maybe but if you go off the dates this was posted and take in the about 2 years of time skip in it. I don’t think it’s at all crazy a blind person in 2017 had a flip phone.
So I guess the question is why arrange the keys like that? What benefits do you get by splitting the letters down the middle like that?
My understanding is that not being allowed to catch rainwater is more of a urban legend. People took not being allowed to divert streams and other bodies of water and over time the telephone game turned it into not being allowed to gather rain off your roof.

Okay but I actually would be really interested in Robert having access to the CIAs documents. Sophie can run the agency.
