pics@lemmy.world•A wet July in Cumbria has meant the waterfalls are looking lushEnglish
3·2 years agoSuper interesting how climate change seems to be effecting different areas. While your July is cool and wet this year, a lot of the US and northern hemisphere in general has had record heat waves and wildfires in areas that are normally cool and wet. Go figure lol

How does it normally look? I’m from the Pacific Northwest in the states so the waterfalls here almost always look like this

Fediverse@lemmy.world•As Twitter destroys its brand by renaming itself X, Mastodon user numbers are again soaring | TechCrunch
22·2 years agoCan anyone help explain how to find content worth following on Mastodon? I made an account today and despite going through the #explore category I’m finding it difficult to find content or people I want to follow. The few things I’ve found end up just being Lemmy communities which kind of defeats the purpose of having a mastadon account at all… maybe it’s because I never had a Twitter, but the Lemmy/reddit/forum layout makes much more sense to me

Simple Living@lemmy.ml•Your value is not determined by your productivity.English
2·2 years agoAgreed. Id take a step further even though. What one does for WORK to provide for themselves doesn’t give them value either. For example, a doctor, paramedic or nurse can save a life in the course of their work which adds value to others and may provide purpose to the healthcare worker - but ultimately it’s a dangerous trap to begin believing that this is inherently their value as humans. We all have a value by just existing, experiencing and interacting together. Our society has made it so that one of the questions we ask first is “what do you do for work?” Because we so often wrap up our profession in our identity and value

politics @lemmy.world•Alabama Republicans, despite Supreme Court ruling, reject call for second majority Black House districtEnglish
19·2 years agoWhat is the next step in challenging this? Can they continue ue to do this indefinitely? It’s amazing that there is no real enforcement to an order from the Supreme Court. Republicans want it both ways… Use their packed court to force unpopular opinions on everyone else and ignore any rulings they don’t like. This is fucked

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?English
1·2 years agoI wonder if this particular problem might be fixed just with the way the instances force communities to be broken up, even as user base grows it will in theory happen across many different instances which means the local instances will continue to have a more local community feel
I followed a guide that lead me to lemmy.world, but honestly I don’t know how people are choosing which instance to join

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?English
1·2 years agoI’m also still confused with the layout and how to navigate… Even figuring out how to view different instances or share posts from instances seems confusing so far. I’m gonna continue on with brute force though. Reddit killing RIF was too much for me. I’d been using that app for over 12 years, and honestly maybe a fresh start like Lemmy will be a good thing
