Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Any recommended p2p filesharing programs?English
21·3 days agoThe only real option nowadays is SoulSeek. Just make sure you set it up properly. I have seen loads of people mistakenly (I assume) share personal folders. And I am sure some people pry on these.
A couple years ago I was going through this guy’s shared folders because he had a few bits of obscure media I was looking for. Then I ended in a folder containing very personal pictures (family, ids, bank cards). I was actually scared for that guy! I literally found his phone number in the files, and called him to warn him… We are still friends! :D Following this I did two things:
- Spent a whole day looking for people sharing personal info, and warning them.
- Made a folder with files containing fake personal info, fake pictures, etc. I just gave the files names like password.txt, holiday2017.png, etc. Those files were downloaded almost immediately.
For over 3 years I had a torrent that had been stuck at just under 90%. We were 4 more or less 2 over the years. Then I randomly found this guy on soulseek who had the file from the torrent (exact name and size), but it was in private. I messaged him, he wanted to trade (never understood this type of people). Thankfully I had something he wanted. We traded, switched the file in the torrent folder, force check, 100% Motherfuckers! I never kept in touch with that guy, and his precious little file is easily findable on public trackers :D
TLDR - Soulseek

This is clearly a form of ragebaiting, but the immaculate conception story feels like some old folk’s tell, and could visualise very well for some awesome artsy psychedelic short clip.
Intriguing post history.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are there video media (e.g TV shows, Movies, anime, video games, youtube videos, etc...) with a majority of the dialogue in an fictional language?
4·5 months agoWatched a good ten minutes of Incubus. I speak a couple Latin and Germanic languages, and it sounded like a weird mix of European languages. Could definitively understand some of it.
It’s in Esperanto!
There is a bigger market than you think. Shark meat is part of Asian, Caribbean, Latino, and Hawaiian food culture. You can find dozens of different shark products in grocery store, and that’s not including pet food. It can hide under different names like white fish or ocean fish.
So I would guess from high hundreds of thousand to low millions.Dug deeper, it is estimated around 300 to 500 thousands from shark fisheries. But, 2.5 to 5 million from bycatch…Their is also recreational fishing. Which is responsible for 100 to 150 thousands shark killings per year.
So that’s a comfortable 3 to 5 million a year in the US alone…
And coincidentally, there is some scandal happening now about critically endangered shark meat sold under false labels.

This comment sent me into a little rabbit hole.
In the US alone, humans kill, on average, 1 cow per second (over 33 million a year). That is including calves.
edit: In the US alone, humans kill, on average 1 shark per 10 seconds (over 3 million a year).
Well… That’s poor/broke adulting. When you’re born with a golden spoon in your ass, you’re whole house (read mansion) is run by what is called the help. You pay people to sort your shit out. Your kids are raised by nannies, and for the weekend you go to your seaside house on a semiprivate island in your private jet.

Hey thanks for worrying for my boy. The collar is very loose, and he knows how to get out of it and can very easily. But he never goes outside since his brother was killed by a fox.

World News@lemmy.world•Nigeria kidnappers kill 35 hostages even after ransom paidEnglish
8·8 months agoIn an attempt to curb the spiralling and lucrative kidnapping industry, a law was enacted in 2022 making it a crime to make ransom payments. It carries a jail sentence of at least 15 years, however no-one has ever been arrested on those charges.>
Ah yes! The good old turn the victims of a crime into criminals to stop the other criminals from perpetrating the crime. Seems to me like a winning solution!

I’ve made tofu bourgignon many times with extra-firm tofu. I usually leave it all in the crockpot for up to two hours without it breaking down. It tastes amazing.
