I feel like this is the origin story to a script of a film Chris Pratt would definitely star in… …Oh wait…

It has to do with sheer cost and then tariffs to protect government owned industries. Regulation would definitely be a better starting point.
Also I actually agree with you.
Here in Alberta, Canada girls have to prove their girls to play girls sports. All because one (of maybe 2-5 in the entire province) trans kids wanted to play sports.
I wish I was joking.

Let’s not do that. Because either the entire food chain from agriculture to shelf would have to be nationalized, and that… is just not feasible. Maybe 50 years ago, sure but not anymore.
Let’s start with passing some laws to nationalize the price or cap the price of essential food items. Meat, Vegetables and fruit, bread items to start with. And legislated weight would be nice. I still don’t understand why a package of chicken breast comes with only 3 fucking pieces and costs $14-$18. Average families are four people damnit!!! Packaged meat should be in amounts for 2 people and 4 people.

It just likes like someone in game found the light switch…
I hope you are right, and generally speaking I believe the same way you do on the matter. Sure they had lineups 2000 people long in every community, but that’s it. Everyone that was going to sign their stupid petitions signed them the first 3 days.
But if you are like me and live here, the sentiment is very much “fuck Ottawa” more than “fuck Canada.” It’s sad how easily affected a population can be when it comes to propaganda like this. It’s sad really. And we thought thought as a society, making sure everyone can read and write a lawful requirement was a good thing.
