You’re comparing (barely) being able to afford the cheap iPhones and gas to an education and homeownership.

3·2 years agoIf you don’t have any idea how to configure a configuration.nix, you need to start there. In my opinion, NixOS is not like any other distro and if you try to treat it like a normal distro, you will have a bad time.

2·3 years agoYep. They’ve been using their cash and Cook’s supply chain skills to crush competition and secure sweatshops wherever cheap labor can be found. It’s been going on for years. I think they have seen the tensions building in China and Taiwan and have been making mostly subtle changes for years. Covid was an excuse to ramp that up.

Exactly. It is getting more common to set up non-profit foundations in such situations. Disclosure: There’s a lot of legal stuff I don’t understand but I think the idea is that by having a non-profit entity that is focused on the “mission” and not profits, they will be more able to make the good long-term, decisions a founder might make instead of whatever makes investors the most money.
