Technology@beehaw.org•When it comes to total water use, AI data centers are a drop in the bucket
7·5 days agoEnvironmentalists have been decrying the levels of water use at golf courses and on traditional lawns for literally decades. If you take the self-reported figures from the behemoth tech companies and compare it to the worst industrial wastes of clean drinking water or to entire nations worth of water usage, the tech companies seem small. That doesnt make their impact any less significant, but it does make this a greenwashing rag.
Media literacy isnt about having a curated list of trusted sources that you take as gospel, it’s about critically reading, understanding, and questioning the content before determining meaning and impact.
Not as old as it looks. The artist is BumLung

5·9 days agoThis would have been previously agreed upon by the union contract, and they also said explicitly that the union would have a period of 20 days between selecting the business units where layoffs will happen and the actual layoffs to negotiate or provide alternatives. Paizo is a pro-union shop generally, and they’re telling the union that layoffs are necessary and giving them a chance to make suggestions, while also following the terms of the union contract. Nothing shady about that.
Thank you for creating Major Arcana content! (Also please keep making cards and eventually compile them into a full deck)
Functionally, I guess so. Materially, absolutely not.
It actually is all new cars. You have to go back almost 20 years to find anything not internet connected

Technology@lemmy.world•SpaceX IPO explained: Why Elon Musk's $1.75 trillion company could soon appear in popular index fundsEnglish
3·17 days agoSome (although inexplicably not all) small cap value funds dont include the mega cap tech companies at all in their indexes. Going extremely heavy small cap value could get you a portfolio without any exposure to these criminals, depending on the options available through your manager. That may make for a more sound financial strategy than pulling everything out of the market entirely.

I’ve talked to some folks around the Cedar Rapids area where there’s a Google data center being built. Apparently they’re pulling in electricians from out of state and paying them 1/4 million dollar salaries +350$/day per diem for this two year project.
I’d bet the majority of that cash is going to the local strippers
Edit: and they deserve every penny 🙏

That module is really low powered for modern microinverters. I only know about a small subsection of the market, but I don’t know any that will work with voltages that low.
Edit: you could probably run them in series to get a more usable voltage. 200w combined and 48Voc on a single DC input will be easier to find.
