  • I consider myself a huge fan of the VHS series, but starting with VHS Viral I’ve been really disappointed with the “wrap around” story as you put it. To the point where I feel like they’ve betrayed the premise with the recent movies, even if some of the short films are very good.

I havent seen VHS Halloween yet, and I may skip it altogether based on this review. It’s hard being so disappointed in a franchise that I still have such love for and that showed so much promise early on.

They already made one (very poor) response and that’s what’s got most people doubling down to keep the pressure on them to change their stance. I really dont see how a bunch of forum posts could possibly be “too far”.

Here’s hoping for a new official response that takes these concerns much more seriously and commits to a structure that doesnt allow for these types of issues to come up again. I had just finally decided on framework for my next laptop, but I’ll happily spend my money elsewhere if this isnt resolved very differently from how they first hoped to sweep it away.

  • What I described is more of a necessary culture shift to disincentivize “AI music” as digital content, which is unavoidably pervasive in the muddied waters of cloud based algorithmic music streaming. The platforms where these things propagate are built explicitly to enrich those who already control the music industry, and pro-artist people-centric communities where oxygen isnt given to AI slop must be decoupled from these platforms.

As you say, diving into the local music scene isnt an answer for everyone to find the music they love without risk of slop being mixed in, but I do see it as essential to following the path toward revitalizing the cultural importance (and livelihoods) of artists over content creators, engagement metrics, and lopsided payment structures that have allowed AI slop to pollute our lives.
