politics @lemmy.world•Why liberals, people of color and LGBTQ Americans say they're buying guns
7·2 months agoContact or join your local SCA group. They may be anachronists as opposed to anarchists, but if you want to learn how make and use weapons and armor of that sort there are few more accessible teachers and trainers.
One of them made large amounts of basic body armor from heavy gauge plastic barrels for use by protesters a few years back. They may not stop bullets, but they are very_ effective versus “non-lethal” rounds and similar.
And yes, the person did get a visit from the FBI, who let the person keep on making as they weren’t working on weapons of any sort. Just the armor.

7·3 months agoI’m Canadian, and this year I went to Florida to fulfill a life-long (I’ll be 60 next year) dream to visit the Kennedy Space Center. One thing I noticed, beyond getting “randomly secondarily” screened at EVERY security checkpoint, was that there were no wait lines for anything anywhere.
No lines at NASA, no lines at restaurants, no lines at Orlando attractions. At least nothing more than a couple of minutes, at most. Even the beaches were mostly empty…
Dial up modems, like the ones the poster mentioned, could receive incoming phone calls as part of their normal function

2·5 months agoThanks for the driving tip as I absolutely am renting a car at the Orlando airport and driving out to our hotel, which is about 15-20 minutes away from KSC.

2·5 months agoI plan on spending at least two full days there so I’ll try to hit all of that. How much of that has to be booked in advance?
Also, is it still possible to visit the Apollo 1 memorial?

Gaming@lemmy.world•I'm still in full denial, personally.English
8·5 months ago59 years old today and still in denial.
From Atari’s Combat, through Tribes, and now Helldivers, the gaming goes on. There may come a day when I put away my mouse and controller …
BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that apart from not having a car and voting, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat.
3·5 months agoI wish I could afford red meat…

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•All this produce is going to spoil at the food bank where I volunteerEnglish
3·6 months agoWell, all the Nestle stuff gets sent back to them. Pretty much all the big name cereal outfits have orders that damaged products are to be sent to a salvage company.
Happily most cheese and sliced meats can be donated, plus we generally send 8-10 shopping carts of baked goods and produce directly from us to them every day

25·6 months agoI’m one of the returns clerks in a Costco. First thing we do every morning is process stuff to send the food bank. It irks me how much stuff we aren’t allowed to send because the manufacturer won’t allow it. Even despite that we send a lot every day. Everything that does spoil at the food bank goes to a local pig farm, who donates pig products back to the food bank whenever he can.

Games@lemmy.world•6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux?English
1·9 months agoPossibly/Probably but as I said. Right now win 10 runs all my productivity, gaming and streaming software such as OBS and Veadotube.
They run and run well. I have literally no incentive to switch to either a Linux distro or win11. If that changes, then I’ll consider changing my OS, but until then…why would anyone?

5·9 months agoI have no plans to either update to win11 or change back to chanting magic spells at my computer to get it to work (Ubuntu, many years ago).
My computer works and does everything I want it to. Basic internet security and reasonable precautions are sufficient for a low level user like me to stay safe.
As an older (55+) man, this has indeed been my life experience
I work at a Costco in Western Canada. Today (28th) was a little slower than slower than normal, but well inside the normal ups and downs we see. All of us are curious to see if the 1st is busier to make up for it.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Dying to win: Canadian provinces are expanding legal gambling despite one death every nine days
1·1 year agoAre these death tragic? Yes. But 40 deaths a year isn’t something that’s going to sound a call to arms. Perhaps money would be best put toward more mental health services for men, whose rate of suicides far outstrips that of women but have significantly fewer resources specifically for them.

Well tbh, I’m still working out how a lot of this federated thing works and this was my gateway to Lemmy after the Redditpocalypse

And so, you become like them. Rigid, unyielding, and unable to see any viewpoint but your own. I feel pity for the future you and am glad I will not live to see it
