Massachusetts@lemmy.world•Merrimack Valley makes state history with permanent fare-free transitEnglish
2·11 months agoInteresting. Is there a history of this phenomena? Does free ridership have a tendency to stagnate a system? I don’t have anything against free transit, but I do worry that it can devalue it. I am definitely not the target audience, so it is hard to have a definitive opinion.

1·11 months agoIsn’t this the standard practice of corporate raiders where they will buy a company strip it of all its value and then bankrupt it and leave? It seems like this should be extremely illegal.

Boston, MA@lemmy.world•Allendale St., JP into BrooklineEnglish
2·11 months agoI haven’t had a problem with them, because it seems easy enough to go over them at around 25 miles per hour. 25 mph is the speed limit and all these neighborhoods. I’m sure there are situations where it becomes very annoying. I’m more curious about what the snow plows are going to do with them.

Boston, MA@lemmy.world•Boston City Councilor Calls For Public Hearing To Discuss Soda TaxEnglish
1·11 months agoIf the only major argument is that soda is the cheapest and there’s not a cheaper alternative then that further justifies this bill in my opinion. It’s hard to predict the future, but prices and behaviors would have to change if there were no cheap alternatives. Of course there’s no guarantee that unscrupulous healthy beverages wouldn’t go up in price, but that seems unlikely.

Boston, MA@lemmy.world•South Boston Residents Debate Over Planned Bluebike ExpansionEnglish
3·1 year agoIt’s been a long time since I’ve been in this situation, but biking around Boston is an amazing form of transportation except for two major things: having your bike stolen, and storing it somewhere. Blue bike covers both of those scenarios. I wish they had been around years ago. Of course I don’t know how the prices compared to owning a bike.

9·1 year agoI would like to know the difference in survival rates of fires with one staircase in these situations. It’s easy to change codes based on political factors, but I’d rather do them based on statistical ones.
I love it when people are empathetic and helpful. They made your day and hopefully you passed it on.
