I know it happened in several cases, and I try not to watch those movies.

But others, where they are upfront about it, I think it is fair play.

The key is ethics. Always has been.

The movie doesn’t pretend that the main character has really jumped from a cliff onto a ship.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I also don’t think the bible should be censored. It’s just that the bible does endorse bad behaviour, such as how to treat slaves (and thus owning slaves). It is not just a piece of fiction that nobody believes in, and it wasn’t written by people who just wanted to entertain their friends. A lot of the bible is about morality.

The difference is in the endorsement of horrible behaviour. So, if the same horrible things were encouraged in an LGBTQ+ book, I would expect it to get the same response as what the bible is getting.

The in-universe reason is that the devil is making people think that the criticism is valid.

Tempting is what they call it, and it allows them to dismiss anyone who appears to be making a good point as consorting with the devil.

I personally think he is highly overrated, but if you think of him as an airport thriller writer, who has no real intention to be accurate in his depiction of things in his books, you’d rate him fairly.
