GenZedong@lemmygrad.ml•Mel Van Elteren's Labor and the American Left An Analytical History details how the western left lost the class war in 1948.English
0·2 年前Damn, what a tragic loss of class consciousness. I hope the modern wave of unionisation is friendlier to communism. I feel like it is but that’s just anecdotally from my perspective

Anime - Socialism with Kawaii Characteristics@lemmygrad.ml•Anyone else stoked for the Mashle Finale?
2·2 年前I wouldn’t call it the deepest show, but I think it’s entertaining. The humor is great for sure

GenZedong@lemmygrad.ml•BlackRock Recruiter Who ‘Decides People’s Fate’ Says ‘War is Good for Business’ Undercover FootageEnglish
4·2 年前Not new info, but gross how callously he lays it all out. Especially given he is also a worker, can’t imagine he owns large chunks of blackrock

1·3 年前I feel like most regulatory bodies in the US have a massive lack of knowledge of modern industry practices. Or are willing complicit in the anti-consumer practices

Fuck Cars@lemmy.ml•Commuting by car makes people miserable, and the longer the commute the more miserable it makes you.English
2·3 年前I’m perhaps exaggerating, but yeah cars have some use cases. They are just aggressively overprescribed as the tool for everything rather than only as needed

Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•Some habits I noticed while talking with older relativesEnglish
2·3 年前Oh yeah, I know plenty of people abusing adderall, mdma, coke or what not, then turn around and judge some others for having the bad luck to get addicted to the wrong drug

Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•Some habits I noticed while talking with older relativesEnglish
2·3 年前Exactly. Most people don’t realize you are infinitely closer to being the homeless person than the billionaire exploiting them. A few bad events and suddenly the street is your best option. A few good events and maybe you can buy a house instead of rent

Communism@lemmygrad.ml•Trump indictment: Pentagon upset over stolen plans for war against IranEnglish
1·3 年前That’s a good point. The US is pretty hawkish in general and I’m sure the higher ups in the DOD even more so.

FuckCars@lemmygrad.ml•"Need some milk? let me hp on my 5-ton pedestrian crusher to get some"English
1·3 年前Yeah, my parents are the same way. It’s an auto industry induced arms race to the largest car possible. I think a cultural shift is definitely necessary, and I think it’d be easier if the alternatives were already good. Unfortunately, it’s a chicken and egg problem of the alternatives don’t get funded because the culture doesn’t respect them, and the culture doesn’t respect them because the alternatives aren’t great

FuckCars@lemmygrad.ml•"Need some milk? let me hp on my 5-ton pedestrian crusher to get some"English
1·3 年前I think we could have certain areas to allow unrestricted speed for people who want it, but for common commute paths I don’t think that’s necessary
I’m for reasonable gun control. Waiting periods, no fully automatic weapons. And the US is on the decline from being a superpower now. I don’t need or want America to be the world police. The world should have more partnerships, treaties, and such, and less superpowers dominating the landscape.
I don’t think we should be grooming children for leadership, I think leaders will emerge naturally as people grow and develop. We should be giving children resources to be their best selves with free education, housing, and food. People can elect those who feel best represent them and their interests. I’m a moral relativist, mores and values shift constantly and it is hard to predict what would be best with future technologies and societies.
coderade@lemmygrad.mltoShit Reactionaries Say@lemmygrad.ml•Will someone please think of the billionaires
25·3 年前Lol. I don’t want to be a billionaire, I’m not a sociopath. And yeah I’ve been condemning oil and gas exploration long before these idiots hopped in a shitty tin can

Gaming@lemmy.ml•[EDIT: CONFIRMED FALSE] Starfield physical edition won't include physical discs.English
27·3 年前If they’re calling it a physical copy it should be a physical copy of the game data. Having a case to hold a code is a ridiculous slap in the face. And a waste of plastic
Fully automated communism would be the goal. But steps to get there: (not super ordered)
- Redirect huge chunks of military funding to lift people out of poverty, provide healthcare, etc
- Rapidly phase out all fossil fuel subsidies, replace them with incentives for green energy, infrastructure like trains, bridges, etc
- Aggressive taxes on the wealthiest, to the point being a billionaire is impossible if not illegal. Redistribute this wealth to the masses
- Invest much more in science, focusing on ways to better balance our existence with nature
- Bring copyright back to its original 20 years, or better yet get rid of it entirely.
- Have any government software be open source and copy left. All public schools should also be using open source software to teach children so they have a better appreciation for it
- Convert many of our foreign military bases into centers to give back to the local communities, either with information or goods. If the country doesn’t want us, move out
- Move to some other form of voting. I’d say mixed party proportional for representatives in congress, ranked choice or star voting for president. Get rid of the senate or change how its members are elected.
- Heavily incentivise unions, at all levels. Local branches in each company, company wide, profession wide. Heavily punish union busting.
- Have elected workers on the board of each company, with equal or greater voting power than investors
- End single family zoning, make housing a right, start building dense housing in over priced cities
- End large corporate lobbying, have representatives paid based on how their constituents are doing
I’d want people in power who actually care about their constituents. Their incentives should be to help people, not pad their pockets

Fuck Cars@lemmy.ml•Commuting by car makes people miserable, and the longer the commute the more miserable it makes you.English
3·3 年前Cars: bad for the planet, bad for physical health, bad for mental health, bad for urban planning. What are they useful for again?
I could see Facebook making instances as a service for sure. And hosting their own instances they could scrape data from others (which will get them defederated quick, hopefully). But just having a nice clean signup system from a company people know would go a long way to getting people to join the fediverse, and hopefully people would eventually leave

Gaming@lemmy.ml•FTC: Xbox-exclusive Starfield is “powerful evidence” against Activision dealEnglish
5·3 年前I had zero hope this would get blocked. Still not totally sure but the FTC is definitely putting up a solid fight. I’d prefer the consoles be fighting to prove they are the better hardware and software experience, not that they can buy the most studios

GenZedong@lemmygrad.ml•Anti-feminism is fascism. Facebook allows sexist memes and other websites encourage sexism. In our world, women are treated like sex objects or as emotional and irrational people.English
6·3 年前Capitalism and sexism reinforce each other definitely. We should be abolishing commodification of everything, especially women. In capitalism women can be leaders of capitalistic enterprises, but they have had mixed results of show well they actually change the system. Capitalism relies on exploitation and women have been exploited for far too long.
I hate how cars have been tied to “freedom” while conveniently ignoring how restricted by roads, gas prices, private property, maintenance, and parking cars are. Walking is the freest transportation option by far but car marketing has hidden that

That would be beautiful! Hopefully puts some pressure on the rest of the world to hop on the Linux train
