a big part of it was people seeing first hand the Soviet’s sabotaging the CNT-FAI’s efforts, which I imagine was part of what turned Orwell against communists later in his life.
I still contend that if the Soviet’s supported the Syndicalists as much as the Nazis supported the Nationalists, CNT-FAI would have won the war.
yeah people don’t realize just how insidious advertisement really is.
your phone isn’t “reading your mind,” advertisers have such a comprehensive model of you that they’re able to predict your thoughts with an incredibly high degree of accuracy before you even have them. There’s also obviously a bit of confirmation bias in play, you only remember the times they got it right as opposed to the times they guessed wrong.
gods I wish it was warm enough to wear my crop
nah I miss VHS. I kinda see the era of VHS as similar to the PS2-Xbox 360 gaming era. It was when the ratio of production costs to how much profit a movie needed to make were juuuust right, such that you had a wide variety of studios taking wild swings at different ideas. However, it wasn’t quite so easy as the modern Internet area, where anyone could produce video content. I feel like “good” bad movies just don’t get made anymore; they’re either so amateur that it feels unfair to make fun of them because it’s clearly people who know only the basics of filmmaking if that, or it’s a studio release. There’s of course a handful of exceptions, like Neil Breen, but the volume is so much lower than the VHS era.
this really is the dream way to spend a day
my one concern is that I wouldn’t want a salad dressing touching my fries. especially since I tend to prefer a light vinagrette.
I wonder if such a sauce exists that could function as both salad dressing and fry sauce. probably something starting with a thousand island base?
okay but I’m poor enough that actually sounds pretty good and achievable

Been pretty good. swapped over to Bazzite, which does just about everything I need for a daily driver. Only real annoyance is my VPN. I haven’t been able to successfully connect through the openvpn configs that PIA provides, so I’ve been setting it up through terminal every time I log in. I think if I really sat down I could set it up to autologin, but it only “costs” me like 30 seconds and sometimes I like to connect to a server that allows port forwarding instead of a non-PF closer server. I also like getting to make the choice of which server I connect to vs autologging in to the lowest latency server.
I still have to use Windows 11 for work though, and holy shit do I prefer running two commands in terminal when I login to dealing with all the dumb fuckin bloat that OS has when I go home.
It’s probably less SAD than my fellow Americans, but still pretty rough. I don’t drink sugary drinks and heavily limit the amount of fast food I consume. When I do go out to eat, I stick to local restaurants; I haven’t had any of the major chains in years. I can’t afford red meat anymore, so my main sources of protein are tinned fish or chicken breasts. Those chicken breasts are part of the problem though, I buy lots of breaded chicken cuts that I can just throw in an air fryer. It’s not Tyson, so a little bit better, but still probably not great for me. I also do lots of boxed pastas, usually with canned veggies added in, neither of which I think are that healthy really.
Part of my issue is that I just don’t enjoy cooking. Mom hated it too, and I think that rubbed off on me during childhood. I make food pretty purely for sustenance, and see it as a chore.

oh damn I should def try it then, loved Inuyasha. Also looks like there was a recent adaptation by MAPPA, so lots to watch through.

Could those of us that aren’t aware get the name?

that’s still a great pick

well, yeah? that’s what it is. If the world capitulates on Greenland, Canada will be next.

the founding fathers who led a revolution because their profits were getting impacted? who couldn’t even agree that slavery was wrong?
I’m very sorry to break the news to you but Trump is not the antithesis of everything the founders worked for. A lot of them were very shitty people. The actual antithesis would be a left-wing populist.

wouldn’t the better analogy here be Chamberlain?

clearly that’s because Newsom is an expert at capitulation, and just thinks they’re all doing it wrong.
“No guys, you gotta work the balls too, not just the shaft. I knew I should have brought my knee pads from home, I could teach you all a thing or two.”
If you’re interested, I’d recommend reading through the works of José Peirats, especially The CNT in the Spanish Revolution: Volume 3 which details the numerous different ways that the Soviets suppressed and terrorized the syndicalists, going as far as imprisoning and torturing anarchists and anti-fascists.
