Technology@lemmy.world•Google pulls the plug on first and second gen Nest ThermostatsEnglish
2·6 days agoNo longer evil has released a firmware hack which redirects the nest to the no longer evil servers.
It works a treat and the web interface is slick.
There isn’t an app yet.
I did mine last night. Unfortunately I have already replaced my thermostat.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Who was your first childhood videogame crush?English
12·14 days agoDead or Alive
Anything that came out when I was a kid or earlier is retro so anything pre 1990 is retro. Post is modern.

Music@lemmy.world•Are you purchasing digital music? (and where?)English
3·9 months agoNot so much now, but I used to buy my digital music from 7digital as they have their music in lossless flac and also hd flac32, not that I had anything to play it on!
Now I mainly buy vinyl.
duffer@lemmy.worldtoMechanic Advice@lemmy.world•Why can't any shop/dealership I've been to do an alignment right?English
4·11 months agoProbably because it is quicker to align one wheel to the other, rather than align two wheels to a centred steering wheel.
I never really thought about it before, but I used to have a car where the steering wheel was about 10 degrees off after having the wheels aligned. I assume they used the nearside wheel as the datum and aligned the offside wheel. Unfortunately the nearside wheel was getting a beating when I was curbing it.

Running@lemmy.world•My treadmill is suddenly feeling weird [SOLVED]
10·11 months agoI don’t own a treadmill but I have worked with belt conveyors!
My first guess would be belt tension.
It looks as if there are YouTube videos which show how to tension treadmills.
My only real advice is to make sure you pull the roller back evenly, otherwise you may get tracking issues (the belt wanders left or right).
I started watching MM1 but I’m not a big YouTube watcher.
I may give MM2 a go from your recommendation.

Android@lemdro.id•Here are the silliest Android phone features of all timeEnglish
8·1 year agoThere is no real silly, just how limited our imagination is.
I honestly thought cameras on phones were silly and I think the first gen camera phones were rubbish. Never did I know and maybe nobody knew that mobile web/web 2/social media would be as popular as it is and would probably suffer without them.

Technology@lemmy.world•[rant] I want computers to become personal againEnglish
86·1 year agoI hear what you are saying, but I’m not sure why you aren’t doing what you want to do.
If you have a computer not provided by work, why do you have Slack or Teams?
Use ad blockers and/or Pi-Hole to avoid pesky ads.
Watch live TV.
Write a letter.
Stay away or use sparingly, data hungry services.
I know I feel better for it and I don’t feel as if I’m missing much.

Android@lemdro.id•Discussion: What Android devices are you using?English
2·2 years agoWhat things are you missing from old Android versions?
I had a realisation recently that I haven’t had the requirement to root and customise my FP4. I don’t have a terminal app and I’ve probably forgotten the majority of the ADB commands I used to use!
Maybe I’m just being assimilated into the Google/android eco-system.

Not sure I’ve ever completed a whole udemy course. So I’d only be able to read the days and hours only.
