I’ve dual booted Linux on and off, mostly Ubuntu every few years over the last 20 years but it never stuck. Windows was acceptable enough for what I wanted, gaming, programming and audio production. Didn’t even mind windows 11 that much however one of their last big updates broke Bluetooth audio for me and apparently that was the last straw so installed endeavour os and haven’t turned back. Only issue is I haven’t quite replaced everything I could do on windows yet, can’t ignore it forever

You literally never know what you’re going to listen to/watch, it’s great.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it important/possible to separate the art from the artist?English
1·5 months agoI think the first problem is art is so broad we shouldn’t be making generalized sweeping statements. One piece of art might be made by someone and it is its own object, e.g. an unrelated painting of a landscape.Whatever that person has done doesn’t change what it is or what it represents. Perhaps that art doesn’t deserve to be shared or promoted in a way that benefits the artist though.
On the other hand, some art like a film that has so much of the artist in it, can’t stand on its own as much. It’s harder to separate them. It’s ok to enjoy the film but still not share or promote it in any way that benefits the artist. We should be ok with having mixed feelings about it.
As with complex topics, it’s really a grey area, there’s no 1 rule.

Agree. I voted labour to get the conservatives out that we’ve been suffering under for so long and we just ended up with another awful government, as you said, Tories lite. If we don’t end up with something better for the next election I have no idea who I’d vote for.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Ice cream trucks still around?English
2·5 months agoYep, one stops just outside my house. When my daughter was little and asked what that sound was (the ice cream van music) I’d say it was the “music van” and it just plays music for people. Didn’t get away with that for very long!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Three Years of Nix and NixOS: The Good, the Bad, and the UglyEnglish
4·6 months agoLoved nixOS but couldn’t install PIA VPN gui and disliked the workarounds. Also doing .net dev was more awkward than I liked so went back to Arch and wrote some scripts to install all the packages I want instead. Love the idea of nixOS though.
I agree with the others but Tangled doesn’t have a prince, there’s no man running the house, there’s just 2 women. It’s more of an abusive parent story than a sexist one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, what's it like when you're sick and need to go to the doctor?English
4·6 months agoWow you get to phone yours? We get an awful convoluted website where you have to type in all your details every time, including pointing on a diagram of a person where it hurts and explaining the problem. It takes forever to fill out and you submit it and then wait however long they want to triage you. Tbf if it’s fairly urgent they are fairly quick but it’s the worst experience when you’re sick.
Then maybe you get a phone call with a doctor who basically just tells you to wait and maybe they prescribe something which then the local pharmacy won’t have in stock. Contact your doctor again to get it changed to something else? Good luck! Many days later you get your prescription after you finish needing it.
What does that have to do with sexism? An evil woman kidnapped her, used her for her magic, locked her away in a tower and used fear to keep her inside.
Every few years since the mid 2000s I’ve dual booted Linux (often Ubuntu) briefly before removing it again and just using windows and then I stopped for many years. I’ve gradually become less happy with windows, increasing ads and tracking but then the announcement of recall made it clear I had to switch. I was going to wait but then windows 24H2 update broke my Bluetooth audio so that was the last straw.
I installed endeavourOS on a separate drive and really liked it. GNOME at first. Then I installed nixOS and for me was almost perfect but I couldn’t get a few things to work like PIAs GUI app and doing some software development was more awkward than I liked.
Now I’m back on endeavourOS but with KDE plasma and it’s great.
