    Agreed on both points.

I’m not them, but I think their intent was to directly link someone the evangelists preach about with the people they are currently supporting to genocide. It’s true that “brown person” is more correct but, idk. I’m not them though.

  • I understand your point, I really do, it’s just that this post and the arguments presented are overly emotional and sensationalist. You can write what you wrote here instead of shout words into a post where no one that should read them will read them. You create an echo chamber and muddy facts.

I agree that maybe not the best moment, maybe in the future when your government of child fuckers changes (please don’t do the US defaultism, it’s annoying). It’s not that point I’m trying to combat, it’s the overly emotional and biased comment.

Also, maybe I write too verbose because English is not my first language, it’s not intentional, I’m not trying to win anything, I’m just trying to convey my ideas. In a less serious tone though, the fucking gall to tell me that this is not a highschool debate right after repeating a phrase 4 times xD. Sorry, had to.

Anyway I think we are in agreement, thing is useful, maybe not the best idea to implement now, it can wait a bit. Have a good day.

  • Yeah, they said that. But I’ll just quote myself.

And then expand in the further discussion that the field has further use besides compliance, and that even if it complies that a field that you can control whenever is not real verification.

They commented that besides compliance, the field has its uses. If for you the initial motivation completely undermines the usefulness of a tool or thing, because that’s what you are doing right now, then nothing else to comment.

Holy shit you are angry, no need to insult when you didn’t process my comment. No point in responding further if you are not gonna be civil. Cya.

  • You know what else enables actual verification? Having electricity. I know it sounds stupid and me being condescending, but I really want to drive home the idea that something being a step to potentially doing age verification doesn’t make it inherently bad. As presented, having that field also opens up the possibility for parents to be able to set a non root account for their kids and be able to control their access in an easier way.

As is, being a locally enforced data point, is something that can enable giving more control to parents without surrendering anything to governments. That’s a a positive thing that I’m sure many parents would like, being able to enable “kid mode” in the OS level for their kids, in a way where the parents are the ones with the agency to do it.

Idk, I feel like demonizing things for their potential bad future is not the best way to approach technology. Raise warnings, address immediate concerns, and put stoppers when actual issues arise. That’s how I like to operate.

  • I highly doubt that’s the case, we knew that this was supposed to be a prequel to BDO, then it’s own story but coop, then offline. That’s what’s been publicly known for years. That this was because of internal restructuring, sure, there’s no way it got so delayed otherwise, but the reports say things like the story being defined like a week before launch. That’s not how voice acting and development works.

Those 4chan-esque insider reports about how the story was supposed to be are weird, given that in BDO there’s a desert in the title too, yet the desert zone and the reason for the name was dropped years after the original launch, so as horrible as a strategy for a game story it is, it’s not unheard of from Pearl Abyss to release a game with a cool name and then in a future expansion to actually release lore.

I knew this game was gonna be basically Black Desert Offline: zero story, good exploration, good combat, bs controls, tons of busywork content. What’s sad is that the amount of hype this got has attracted a lot of people that come to the game without knowing what it was about.

  • To be fair to them, the BDO control scheme is just as alien as the CD one. Them not learning in the successor is not the same as vive coding it, and vibe coding wasn’t a thing when BDO released.

In any case, I agree, no idea how that scheme passed any kind of preliminary check. What’s worse is that what we got is apparently a revised version after reviewer feedback, so it was worse even.

I’m itching to buy the game once they patch some UI improvements, I refuse right now out of principle.

  • As long as I’m root in Linux there’s nothing that can be done about me doing whatever I want with that field. I’ll be born in 420-6-9, name “blaze” surname “it”.

That’s the difference between windows and Linux. In Linux I’m truly root, the I do control everything in it, sometimes to my detriment, but definitely in my benefit in these occasions.

Also, anything the Spanish government wants to protect, is as easy as forcing us to use a free to emit electronic certificate that personally identifies us, which is already used to enter public services webpages in a secure way.

That age thing is actually way more useful that proper bullshit age verification, because parents, actual parents, can set a user account for their kids on the PC, and then that field would actually be valuable to limit access to tools. You know, instead of surrendering power to the government, which this tool doesn’t do, you would be giving power to parents to be proactive in protecting their kids.

Isn’t that one of the most prominent talking points against mas surveillance based kid protection? Of which I completely agree, about giving tools and power to parents so they can better cater the exposure of their kids, without surrendering control, I mean.

  • And then expand in the further discussion that the field has further use besides compliance, and that even if it complies that a field that you can control whenever is not real verification. Please don’t be a headline Andy. I’ve also been one, but if I’m to dive in comments and write about it I usually give it a read, specially if I reference the content of the post.

  • Uh. It’s your computer. Input whatever you want there, idk.

I vehemently disagree with age verification policies fyi, but we also need to recognise that this is not age “verification”. I would never truthfully surrender my personal data in my computer lmao. The name and surname fields in my pc are “fushuan” and “lmao” for God’s sake.

This would be fine if it was just for you, but you’re trying to give my control over my system and what I can access away from me because you’re too short-sighted to see what comes after volunteer age reporting. …

Wait, did you write your actual name, surname and email in your computer? Cuz those are required fields in there too. You aren’t losing any control of your computer if they ask you to write A date on a field of your user profile. You are root on your computer, no? It’s your system as you said it, no? Maybe you are the short-sighted one? You are allowed to input that you were born in 420-06-09, no one is gonna stop you, you are root.

  • How is a field you can introduce used to verify anything? There’s no “verification” if you choose to put whatever you want.

Or what, do you consider the field that shows up when clicking some games on steam where you just scroll the year 40 down and click whatever, age “verification”? Cuz it isn’t.

Having a date field so that parents can define their kids’ age in for non root accounts on Linux so the system, in a potential future, automatically limits access to some stuff is useful, and yet there’s no age verification being done there, besides the parents themselves knowing that what they inputted is truthful.

  • No one knows the level of job she was gonna do because she didn’t finish!

You are being extremely rude to a person that in beloved in the town right now. The hate was not from the fellow neighbours, was internationally. If you wanna criticise some one criticise the priest in change of the church that gave her permission to do so.

The priest even attempted to cover the painting to save her of the hate, in proof that he still was wanting to protect her, but the mayor of the town decided not to, since the amount of tourism actually brought money to the town.
