Is Tumbleweed really immutable? I thought it was just an RPM-based rolling release distro.

16·10 months agoWe need to reach a consensus on that across EU. Allow for a few decades, then we can make an informed decision and start to plan how to proceed.
Meloni also said she hoped Trump’s “confrontational” approach on European defence would be a much-needed “stimulus” for the continent to take responsibility for its own security.
It looks like it will. Trump is uniting Europe and we’re finally asking ourselves some hard questions. European de-facto dependency on the US for defense has never been ideal.

3·10 months agoyou can’t leave the water stale for too long,
Can’t you, though? I read a supposed expert say in an interview recently that while the taste might change over time, it would still be OK to drink, so you don’t really need to change it. I would think a lot depends on the container it’s kept it.

Europe@feddit.org•The European Union urges citizens to stockpile supplies to last 3 days in case of crisisEnglish
3·10 months agoThanks for the reality check. Here in Norway, we have twice received brochures in our paper mail about crisis planning, with specific recommendations for stockpiling. I know it’s the same in Sweden (their brochures have been very blatantly telling people that this is “in case of war”, even, while Norway focuses more on natural catastrophes, pandemics etc).

Europe@feddit.org•The European Union urges citizens to stockpile supplies to last 3 days in case of crisisEnglish
17·10 months agoA lot of, perhaps most, European countries have already issued such recommendations.
Honestly, having enough food in the house to survive for 3 days is hardly a “stockpile”. Many people would have to make an effort to have less food than that. Water is a different issue, of course.
It literally is.

World News@lemmy.world•Netherlands tightens U.S. travel warning, especially for LGBTQ visitorsEnglish
21·10 months agoNorway today issued a warning against traveling to the US for those whose current legal gender is different from their birth gender. Norway lets you change your legal gender simply by filling in an online form.
As far as I understand, the US will consider a passport fraudulent if it states such a gender. Document fraud is a federal crime, so it could be quite dangerous for the traveler.
What the hell is going on with the kerning in that screenshot? My eyes, they bleed.
I’m sure there are many cases where tech companies just cannot find local talent, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the H-1B provision is also misused to get less expensive labor. This could ultimately make it less attractive for locals to get into the field at all, since they cannot compete on salary. It also contributes to brain drain from developing countries. Personally I’m not going to shed a tear for Amazon in this case.

Europe@feddit.org•MEPs unite to demand urgent action on e-commerce, the Left also wants Amazon, Temu and Shein to be “banned from the EU”English
12·10 months agoIt’s disappointing and very stupid that so many people just love buying toxic crap they don’t need, produced by people who are effectively slaves.
That said, the left loves to pretend we are headed towards a “circular economy” and that stuff like Temu is holding that back. While this is a beautiful thought, the notion that people who are OK with Temu will embrace an alternative model of repairs and small second-hand family-owned local shops is just a fantasy.
