I think you’re going after a (yes greedy) victim. It seems like the developers are the truly greedy people here. Hell they haven’t built shit, and now they are suing the people they’ve already conned?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump says Carney apologized for Ford's anti-tariff ad
13·2 months agoEven though it’s plainly obvious that the Carney has nothing to do with that commercial, and the commercial was just a regan quote (and ok maybe the one thing dougie did that i think is good). Would apologizing for that costs us anything. Like if it lowers the taxes, that seems good for canada.
obligatory can’t wait for trump to die.

It wouldn’t be surprising at this point if he used this as an excuse to invade Canada.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump mocks trans folks to prime minister with nonbinary kid
4·2 months agoAgainst a reasonable politician it would be. Wouldn’t they just use that as an excuse to declare war and annex us. Using that same war to cancel elections and stay in power?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada’s hidden tax crisis is stripping $15 billion from the economy every year
3·3 months agoCompletely agree about the imbalance being a massive problem, and agree that taxing is likely to wind up missing these people, I don’t see a clear way to cap wealth that doesn’t have the same result.
If we could do that, I don’t see a way with our current system that this would ever happen. Even if we put the NDP in power I’m suspicious that some of them would cave under wealth pressure.
Sorry to be a bummer

14·4 months agoIt’s so transparent, this thing that JUST happened is nuanced, and looks dumb on it’s face if you don’t read past the headline. So of course bitcoin pete jumps on it. Can we please get some St. Mangionie on him, it might make other politicians more honest for a short time.
Nightreign had me, I’ve gone back to it for the everdark bosses, but I find the run before the bosses the most fun.
Went back to elden ring because of it, also picked up enshrouded and have been playing that with my coop group.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada to quadruple Canada’s defence spending by 2030: Carney | Watch News Videos Online
13·4 months agoBad.
There is no amount we could spend on defence that would stop the US. Any annexation would would be immediately over and instead be fought as a long expensive civil resistance at best. I think we spend enough on defence to know, cry about it, and help out around the world.
Instead of spending our money on making Canada a better place to live we are going to give it to a few corporations that make weapons, we’ll probably sell them to israel to kill kids with.
Like there’s just so many better places to spend this: housing, hospitals, infrastructure, transport, environmental projects.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Ontario man charged after confronting intruder inside home allegedly used knife, court docs say
28·4 months agoThis sounds broken and stupid, but I think it might be the system working well. I don’t think we want stand your ground laws like in Florida.
Self defence is allowed, but only so far as to defend yourself. You can’t go maim someone once your outside of danger. Also this doesn’t mean the guy is guilty, just charged.
It’s pretty nuanced: https://lois-laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/section-34.html
Even the post points this out:
“What would be unreasonable,” former police officer Dan Jones told CBC News Network, “is as you’ve got them subdued on the ground, already under control, continuously hitting them, or hurting them, or stabbing them.”

2·4 months agoBased on the last 10 years I don’t see how this could be true. China seems like they are really pulling ahead in gaming. Also kinda weird to just compare these two, like just cause their Asian?
I had to containerize an older java app. It sucked, java would take all the memory you gave it regardless, so it was hard to determine memory requirements/limits. It had pretty slow start although this wasn’t an issue for us, logging formatting was a pain. All this was overcome (not by upgrading), it was just a pain.
I suspect this isn’t true of modern java though - I’d suspect with the hype kubernetes went through a few years ago that it’s just fine now a days.

They are selling something that isn’t built based on investments. They go super cheap on what they put in it, and if you can’t purchase because you don’t have enough money (yes shame on you), they sue you AND keep the money you put in. They are not just building the place and selling it at a price.
