I’ve learned the same, but I’ve concluded the following: there’s a proper path for everyone, but there aren’t enough educators to give proper guidance in finding your path. If you can and are willing, I would still recommend the formal education. It’s finding your own path of growth that’s the difficult part.

Somebody much smarter than me will be able provide answers!
Makes sense, and I’ve also read it’s very hard to study as well. Different causes with the same perceived sound sounds like a diagnostic nightmare
I was with you until: “[…] but it can also be heard by the examiner (eg, by placing a stethoscope over the patient’s external auditory canal).” and now I’m even more confused
I’ve always learned it comes from damaged hair cells inside the ear, how could it be anything but physical? Very surprised it can be picked up with a microphone in an anechoic chamber though

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do some Americans "feel ashamed" for being American even when it's not their fault?
7·17 days agoWhile agreeing for the most part, it’s painfully clear as someone in the EU how politics in the US empower far right rethorics everywhere else. While politicians in my country have condemned the actions of the US, the political landscape has shifted dramatically.
Everyone is pointing at the US because their politics trickles down into ours, not the other way around.

3·18 days agoCome on, I love libre software as much as the next Lemming, but the Plex TV and mobile app is leagues ahead in terms of usability over jellyfin.
I still prefer jellyfin for many other reasons, but in terms of UX and UI for the average person it’s an easy win for Plex

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft AI CEO Puzzled by People Being "Unimpressed" by AIEnglish

As long as Elon has been in the spotlight I’ve read about what an awful company Tesla is, how innovative SpaceX is but at the same time has horrible leadership to work for.
It was even before 2017 when I tried talking my brother out of buying one because of how clear it was they were cutting corners, hiding behind minimalism to excuse their lacking plastic covered interior.
I refuse to give anyone a pass for buying one, the writing has been on the wall since day one. Any Tesla owner is just another slave to the zeitgeist.
If I wasn’t in IT and knew how to run my own servers I would probably have given up on technology by now

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I got a 12 inch home theater subwoofer for $15 because one of the rubbery legs was missing. I replaced it with a wine cork

2·2 months agoI noticed immediately it’s a 12" active sub, those things go up to 1 kW IIRC. Had one over from a friend recently for a house party, believe me when I say you’ll have more than enough oomph

3·2 months agoLucky find! I’ve been looking for a 12" sub secondhand, I’d buy this in a heartbeat.
I’m pretty sure they only left 16, but their 15 nuggets would be safe with me. Keeping my hands off of 14 nuggets seems like something I could do. 13 nuggets aren’t going keep themselves safe after all. Maybe one of their 12 nuggets could find their way into my mouth, but 11 nuggets should be more than enough for them. But ofcourse I won’t be touching their 10 nuggets without permission, people wouldn’t leave me 9 nuggets if I wasn’t capable of taking care of 8 of them. I didn’t see anyone touch your 7 nuggets, I’ve been here the whole time. 6 is a pretty nice amount to share. Because 5 always leaves room for discussion, it’s better to leave 4 of them. Nobody will touch their 3 nuggets as long as I’m around! Or maybe a cat sneaked in and took one of their two nuggets… Oh hey someone left the last one for me!
If I may give some unsolicited advice while disagreeing with the other comment. Interact with them as little as possible, don’t let them disturb you and ignore any play signs.
While doing your thing, have them lie down and reward them with a previously unseen treat. Start frequent treats, but don’t make them expect it, praising vocally should be enough eventually. The more you do it the less you’ll have to actually say anything and they’ll lie down when they see you’re busy.
YMMV though, I’m not an expert, my girl is just a strong charactered and energetic furball.

Cost of electricity for the most part. Having a scraper visit 100’s of URL’s per second isn’t unheard of, adding this should reduce the speed of the same scraper by 30-70% depending on the request
