  • That’s a good point. Even without encryption, we found search tools (such as those in thunderbird) quickly overwhelmed with heavy load (1-2 GB). We manage shared mailbox in sorting mail in dedicated subfolders. This is not perfect, but in thoses context, manually check in those sub-folders is better that letting those information clear

  • haha. I spent so much time looking for an efficient compression algorithm for audio and movies … until I finally understood there are already compressed X) However it allow me to discover zst, wich is uncredible with text :

     35M test.log
    801K test.7z
      32 test.log.7z
      46 test.log.tar.bz2
      45 test.log.tar.gz
     108 test.log.tar.xz
      22 test.log.tar.zst
    2,1M test.tar.bz2
    8,1M test.tar.gz
    724K test.tar.xz
    1,1M test.tar.zst
    8,1M test.zip

  • That’s ironic, because enforcing your moral code on others was what allow slave trades.

But I will conform to you point of view for the sake of argument. Let say the problem of slave trade is “that’s unethical” If giving “more comfortable working conditions for slave traders” would abolish slave trades, that would unethical to not giving their more comfortable conditions

  • No, it’s mean that the issue is not the workers, but the bankS. Or to be be even more concrete : the system that produce institutions with the function of bank. Opposing to those workers would not make a change; maybe you could make them fired, and others could take the place, but our choice wouldn’t make much difference compare to those of the employers in the bank industries. We could argue that opposing to one bank is the same; at most it could bankrupt (ironically), but other bank would take they function.

That why this is the whole industry we shall oppose to, to against one bank, but against all of then. This is why people in revolutionary union organize by industry, and not by firm or professions. Helping workers in the bank industries getting less hour/day, less harassement and better stability would make the situation where they could diminish or abolish the predation of their employers against others (that are not only customers). We couldn’t expect solidarity from people we are not solidaire to.

This is not about right or wrong, this is about effectiveness.

  • Top 10 played games on steam :¹

    • CS GO : compatible Linux
    • Dota 2 : compatible Linux
    • Battlefield 6 : not compatible
    • ARC Raiders : not compatible
    • PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS : not compatible
    • Path of Exile : not compatible
    • Rust : not compatible
    • R.E.P.O : not compatible
    • Banana : compatible Linux
    • Bongo Cat : not compatible

So 3/10, and 2 of them are made by valve with an explicit orientation toward Linux. Because I’m unemployed, I computed playtime of those games²:

      1. Counter-Strike 2 : 36,07 %
      1. Dota 2 : 21,54 %
      1. Battlefield™ 6 : 10,46 %
      1. ARC Raiders : 8,16 %
      1. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS : 6,78 %
      1. Path of Exile : 4,08 %
      1. Rust : 3,93 %
      1. Banana : 3,24 %
      1. R.E.P.O. : 3,08 %
      1. Bongo cat : 2,67 %

Tbf, I didn’t expect that Linux Games represent ~ 50% of playtime of the top 10. This quite impressive, and it does underline an interesting trend. However, I think a lot of people use their personal experience to other, with no regards for the social contexte. I got 3 different computers, I’m used to Linux, and I couldn’t play to almost every games. Because I’m too poor to get the right hardware, because my friends do not play on compatible games, and gaming is a social experience. My point is not that we shall not make FOSS propaganda’ my point is that software need to be produce regarding the need of the people in our diversity in order to make FOSS mainstream. Everybody is not in IT, in the US with a engineer wages.

  • tbf, data shows that less than 60% valve games release this year runs on linux with no issue and 30% runs with major or minor issues. This stat is stables for years, so we could generalize it; however it do not represents actual gamers experience; very few games represent the majority of gametime, and a lot of them do not run on linux.

Moreover, when the hardware hardly meet the requirements, some people experience crash on linux where stable on windows.
