1·2 years ago@arstechnica@mastodon.social I’d love to know how effective it is for under 65s. Canada has just recommended spring boosters only for 65+, unlike the other boosters to this point.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•When should I start showing someone new to Trek new shows?
6·2 years ago@CCMan1701A @startrek I haven’t liked Discovery or Picard, but I’ve *really* enjoyed Strange New Worlds, and Lower Decks has been a surprising delight.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Does the federation ever starts allowing genetic engineering again?
12·2 years ago@FaceDeer @startrek Modern Trek has *really* pushed both the opposition to genetic enhancement and the prohibition of sentient AI. I suppose it is kinda in keeping with the “humanism” of the source material, but it seems like a blinkered view of the future. (I contrast it with the similarly post-scarcity Culture novels, where both biological modification and artificial Minds are common.)
@almar_quigley @startrek That looks fascinating.

@mycatiskai @startrek I’ve always been uncomfortable with how much Star Wars fandom has embraced the iconography of the Empire.

1·2 years ago@cygnus The earlier books have fantastic, well-thought out space combat scenes, fairly well informed by physics and orbital mechanics.
Everything around those scenes is cringeworthy, and gets much worse as the series goes on. (Honor may be the most Mary Sue character ever.)

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•What programming languages exist in the Star Trek Universe?
4·2 years ago@ZenkorSoraz To paraphrase a developer from the ‘80s: “I don’t know what the language of the future will look like, but I know it will be called Fortran.”

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•How Many Star Trek Episodes Pass the Bechdel Test? (TOS to ENT) | The Mary Sue
5·2 years ago@MaxMouseOCX @startrek That’s not the criterion for the Bechdel Test — it’s ONE conversation between two women that’s not about a man.

@explodicle @startrek I think it’s best not to ponder the capabilities of the transporter too closely, otherwise it kinda breaks the world.
