  • It’s better to speak about it roughly as a concept without getting into the specifics, such as “i morally cannot find someone guilty of X”. The judge and lawyers will know what you’re getting at and you won’t have “tainted” the entire jury pool which could get you in trouble in some courts.

But it’s best to say nothing and get on jury duty so you can use your right to try to nullify if circumstances warrant it. You still can’t mention it when you’ve been selected and you still need to participate in jury deliberations but you can ask questions to other jurors and raise doubt in the prosecution’ case/ defendant’s guilt. You also aren’t required to justify your vote but if you need to explain to your fellow jurors you can just simply say “in my heart im just not able to convict”

For the snow get as wide as tires your frame allows and then ride with a bit lower air pressure than normal so you have more surface area on ice. Studded tires can also help but i just used all-seasons year-round and only fell over a few times ;)

Personally i would avoid getting a new bike unless you can bring the bike into work+home with you to keep eyes on it. I just don’t see the point in spending more money just to make your bike a more attractive target to opportunists. Also could always just wait and see if a new bike is really warranted

  • The other background: Trump paid 16 million to “fix” an algae problem at the reflecting pool in Washington dc. The money went to a friend who wasn’t qualified for the job and who didn’t bother treating any of the plumbing which sat dormant while they drained and painted the bottom of the pool over several weeks. When the pool was re-opened it almost immediately started displaying algae problems again which MAGA conspiracy theorized that it was a far-left op to sabotage trump’s project. But really the project just did a terrible job. And now the latest development is the the paint is peeling up, because of course it is-- again, trump’s friend who was paid for this was not qualified.

    • Quality and subtitles would still be an issue.
    • You potentially have slower speed compared to official streaming services and definitely slower than your self hosted content.
    • You potentially run risk of losing access to the content if the site gets shut down.
    • good luck explaining how a pirate streaming service url is totally legit whereas your plex/jellyfin app is not.
    • some of those streaming services you still need to pay for, or seed content for other people so they’re not “free free” for good quality ones.
    • if you’re buying a usb device loaded with access to one of those sites then that usb device may have malware and no im not just making that up, it has legit happened. There was another more recent story I’m failing to find.

Anyway, i think it’s a bad idea. It’s not for me. Good luck if that’s what you want to do. But for the love of your parents don’t use a modded streaming stick unless you want them to get targeted by fraud/ identity theft. No amount of free content is worth that risk.

  • Streaming services exist, and i used to use them faithfully, here are some issues with streaming services:

    • not all content is high definition. Some older sttuff is bad quality and better quality can be found elsewhere like bluerays
    • if the subtitles suck then you are stuck with them. When selfhosting you can download better ones for those shows.
    • licensing changes and a show you’re watching will be moved to another provider… or not at all. It’s just gone.
    • for a family wanting to watch different shows at the same time, 1 service may not be enough. You may need 2 or 3 or even 5. That adds up $$.
    • ad-free experience, quality of streams, number of simultaneous streams, etc are monetized under streaming services. This does not happen when you selfhost
    • You are giving money to large companies that will use their wealth and power to screw you over.

Those are just some that come to mind.

  • I grew up Mormon but I didn’t agree with the sexism, racism, and homophobia/transphobia that was inherent and/or actively taught in the church.

I was disowned by family, and my entire social network shunned me. There is no teaching in the mormon church to shun like that, but it scratches their cognitive dissonance to be around exmormons so they do it so they can feel good. From their perspective I was just an emissary of Satan so they feel good because they resisted Satan. I ended up being homeless for a bit.

My family tried to get me to come back. They offered to let me come back home if I came back to church. But I never went back home or to the mormon church. Home doesn’t have strings attached and I couldn’t be part of such a hateful religion.
