I don’t see the issue. Isn’t this how IT partitions disks?

18·2 years agoAmassing a media library is simple enough, and software like jellyfin can pull in media info and make your media streamable on various devices with a polished UI.
However, finding good quality (in terms of merit) movies and shows is difficult.
Maybe start with movies critics or a movie discussion platform like letterboxd to see what others are watching/rating movies.

ErgoMechKeyboards@lemmy.world•Type K - Tented Ergo keyboard (03/08/2023 - GB DATE AND PRICING ANNOUNCED)
2·2 years agoThat’s exciting! I’ve been keeping an eye out on the Type K since the IC was posted on GH.
It’s a shame that the base price and short groupbuy window is going to exclude a lot of folks from picking it up.

Memes@lemmy.ml•It's so nice to see them all growing, but this is just the truth, sorry.
4·2 years agoJust commenting this for those that may think free software is referring to price.
Free software is diametrically opposed to proprietary software, and not paid software.
Free software is free in terms of libre, not necessarily gratis. And there are corporations and individual contributors to free software that do charge for their product and maintenance of it.
In terms of telemetry, free software has the advantage over the proprietary counterpart.
It’s a lot more complicated to hide telemetry without the user knowing in free software.
You could always use a network tool, like iftop, to see network traffic on your PC. That could be a way too see if a program is phoning home. But you’ll probably want to use a suite of tools.

But assuming your traffic to/from the server is encrypted, your probably okay.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How does a private torrent tracker associate the downloader with my account?
7·2 years agoThere’s no point in cheating. Any good private tracker will let maintain a sizeable buffer assuming you seed with things like bonus points/free leech.
If it’s difficult to maintain a buffer, plan to move to a different tracker that will.
Plus, the big private trackers communicate with one another. Get caught in one, you’ll be found out in others.

Shell Scripting@programming.dev•do you use file extensions for your scripts?English
1·2 years agoOn my personal computer, ~/bin has two directories within it.
One is for my .sh files and the other contains system links to them. The system link drops off the .sh and all scripts are added to my PATH
I think people often mix up capitalism with market-based economies. The former describes social relations while the former describes how commodities are distributed.
I’m personally not a fan of either. A planned economy geared toward people’s need, with the withering away of socio-ecomic classes (no more worker and capitalist distriction) just makes better sense to me.

4·2 years agoJellyfin is free (libre) and open-source. Plex is freemium and proprietary.
Jellyfin supports hardware acceleration for transcoding and also allows playback through 3rd party video players (mpv, vlc, ect). Those are the features I care most about.
I don’t use Plex because it’s proprietary, so I don’t know what merits Plex has.
Honestly the car industry as a whole is whack, not just Tesla.
Most manufacturers would screw over their customers as well as the planet if it means a bigger profit.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Plan on getting a Linux laptop: any suggestions?
5·2 years agoIf your on a budget, an older Thinkpad is a good choice. I picked up a X220 with a charger and spare battery off of Craiglist a year ago for $60.
Ended up going with Coreboot with a SeaBIOS payload and Debian OS.

3·2 years agoToo add on to this, many private trackers will not disable your account for inactivity if you reach a certain user class or make a one time donation (including OPS).
Plus reaching out to the staff on IRC is a good way to have an account re-enabled if it does get disabled.

What country/region are you in?
In the North America, I’d recommend Novelkeys, Omnitype, Mekibo, Cannonkeys and spacecables (spaceholdings) for GMK sets
A better approach is to keep your eyes out on Geekhack. The majority of keyboards and keycaps go through an interest check there, and then the designer announces all regional vendors/prices prior to a groupbuy.
