I don’t actively play the game with anyone but I’m aware of it and kind of keep it in mind. Last year I “lost” soooo early.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the most controversial TV finale?English
5·5 days agoI was advised to skip it and I still have not seen it. Don’t plan to change it. I like to pretend nothing bad ever happened to Tripp!
One of our cats likes to give my husband “hugs.” She climbs up on his shoulder just like that. He is definitely her person.
We were arguing about Chilli over here in our household because we couldn’t remember her ever being a granny and there’s a lot of assumption that anything could be AI these days. But it turns out she was “Madge” in Season 2, episode “Trains” and it’s a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance. Just in case anyone else was wondering!

Good tip, I’m off to clean things out. I’m an inbox zero person anyway but I have archived instead of deleted way too many things.
They look like rocks. Be careful, don’t crack a tooth!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
3·11 days agoIt was a 1971(? I think) Kenmore of all things. I had no idea Kenmore even made sewing machines, but apparently they did. I still have it. I couldn’t get the zipper foot to work and the proverbial straw was that not only could I find no help online, but the guy at the repair shop said “Why are you bothering?” Although that did rub me the wrong way, admittedly. I took it to a different shop and they said essentially the same thing but in a much kinder and gentler way. (I bought a new machine from them instead of the first guy.) I decided I wanted something I could at least find help for on YouTube, and in fact I have watched videos a few times when I couldn’t figure something out… or whenever I want to do a blind hem because I can never remember how to do it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
8·12 days agolol I agree! Hand sewing is so slow. I only do it when I absolutely must.
As a kid I liked cross stitch, and I think I still might (I’m also a knitter so slow processes are fine) but I don’t enjoy the end product so I never do it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
32·12 days agoI’m not sure I’m quite there yet but I’m on my way: my sewing machine.
I sew clothes for me and my husband. I sew my kids’ Halloween costumes. I sew bags; my last two purses have been made by me. One is still in great shape aside from the handles; my kiddo said I should get (or sew) a new purse and I replied, nah, just need to re-sew the handles, no biggie.
The only reason I don’t think it’s paid for itself quite yet is because I bought a pricey machine in 2021 after struggling with a hand-me-down for a while.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•God did not intend for us to fold fitted sheets, and if you can it's witchcraft.English
4·17 days agoThat works if the sheet only has elastic on the corners. The last few sets of sheets I have bought have elastic all the way around the edge of the fitted sheet. Does well on the bed but damn they’re impossible to fold.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you use 1 stick of deodorant until it runs out or do you have a few different scents you switch between?English
5·18 days agoI’m honestly not sure it has ever occurred to me to treat deodorant like perfume and cycle through scents. But maybe now I’ll try it…
Oh yeah except I pretty much only like lavender scented deodorant so I’ll probably just stick with it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What seems to be difficult to many other people but isn't for you?English
2·25 days agoMy husband is this way. I take advantage of it regularly. I used to consider myself tech savvy but I went into the arts and the tech world left me behind. I used to try and muddle through it, but eventually I just stopped trying because I’d be doing everything “right” without success and then my husband would look over my shoulder and suddenly it would work. So now I swallow my pride and ask him sooner.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What seems to be difficult to many other people but isn't for you?English
1·25 days agoOn Reddit (sorry) a million years ago, someone posted an image or maybe a gif that made it super clear for me and I’ve never had trouble with it since. It basically explained where in the process to turn your wheels. That said, I was an okay parallel parker already but my skills improved after I saw that gif. I’m not finding it on the web though otherwise I’d share it happily.
Strangely enough, I went to high school in a downtown area and often parked on the left side of a one-way street and therefore my parallel skills on the left are better than the right.
All that being said, I find trailer skills to be awe inspiring!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you notice your friends having wildly different priorities as you get older?English
17·25 days agoIt sounds like this guy was on board, if he wants another. But being on board with the ideal is different than being on board with whatever is actually gonna happen when those kids are in the picture. I’d say the same thing about a lot of things, namely marriage and relationships. A lot of people seem to only dream about all of the “good” parts without being realistic with themselves about the less rosy parts.
You are totally right and I’m ashamed to have made that mistake.
Second half reminds me of the classic Monty Python sketch about the deadliest joke in the world.

Even my not-paid-off house is saving me money, since rent has continued increasing and my mortgage has not. I’d probably be paying at least twice in rent for this house as what my mortgage payment is. Bought it 12 years ago.
