Just dropping in to say that 1. your job sounds awesome, have always been low key fascinated with natural building techniques myself, and this sounds similar. And 2., I am currently solving this problem with a spreadsheet at my job, and have been mumbling about a real password manager for quite a while, so I will make use of your findings :)

This is an ignorant way to respond, although I can appreciate these terms have several meanings that can be difficult to follow.
Communist parties of the 20th century knew and openly stated that what they had built was a socialist system and communism was the endgame. The goal of 20th century socialists was to gradually progress to that point that scarcity is abolished and distribution follows the principle of need. At which point they might declare communism achieved, so long as other things have happened like completing the (gradual) dissolution of the state.
It is not an attempt to distance from a bad word - we/Marxists/Communists don’t see it as a bad word.
And the 20th century movements & their states were “real communism” in that they were a genuine expression of the movement for communism, and furnish us with both positive and negative examples.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Zohran Mamdani Just Inherited the NYPD Surveillance State
13·2 months agoMorbidly funny to imagine what it would take to deal with the NYPD. Not to rain on anybody’s parade, but I do not see a Democrat organizing red guards to arrest the cops when they rebel.

5·2 months agoThanks for this. That is interesting. So he does state a commitment to a sort of “full socialist” slogan, if in passing

3·2 months agoIs that part of his campaign or at least recent? I have heard he made some Marxist remarks on social media years ago?

6·2 months agoWhat is the reason to believe Mamdani has an ideological commitment to “real socialism” (which I only put in quotes because it can mean such different things), even accepting he can’t do it alone, which is certainly true.

30·2 months agoWell, Zohran is a social democrat committed to the democratic party (even if its big-bourgeois leaders openly want to crush him), so he might be pretty cooperative with the pig army, really
However, cops seem to mostly be pretty fascist in beliefs, they will probably hate him and obstruct his administration as much as they can.
Agreed. I suggest the free tier of chatGPT voice mode as a rubber ducky - prompted something like, “ask me software dev interview behavioural questions”.
I didn’t even really bother with getting input on my answers from the LLM, you can reflect on your own how you sounded. It was just good practice being asked a random unexpected question and coming up with a good response.

In my opinion liberals who agree fundamentally with deposing Maduro but claim to deeply disagree about the methods are not even temporarily taking the side of anti-imperialism, they’re imperialists who want procedure, “by the book” imperialists.
At the risk of getting a bit speculative or subjective, I think they are basically bullshitting. They don’t disagree with it enough to do shit, even participate in safe legal dissidence. Seriously, someone who would be okay with this if it wasn’t “illegal”, because the elite of the metropole agreed on devouring a given peripheral country, seems like one of the enemy. As opposed to the antizionist movement where liberal peaceniks can be good allies.
