3·2 years agoA lot of this is confusing to me. What is MCN and NCIX? Was the plaque purchased from Linus but then withheld? Or did Linus demand the plaque from the kid after not winning it himself? If so, why would he do that when he presumably has one for his own channel? How did Linus get his fans to harass the kid?

5·2 years agoSadly, in order to get good engagement on YouTube, you almost have to use insufferable thumbnails. Lots of creators have discussed this and how much they hate doing it.

News@kbin.social•Alec Baldwin: Report casts doubt over Rust actor's account of shooting
7·2 years agoI’m not sure it’s that simple? I don’t know the details of this specific case, but are you suggesting that every actor that ever uses a prop gun has to do a test fire? Doesn’t the gun need to be reloaded after firing? How would the actor then know that it’s safe after the reload? I don’t think this is as easy as you make it seem. The process for such things needs to be tighter with strict controls and responsibilities. There are entire teams dedicated to the safe use of these props, and it’s not just the actor’s responsibility.
I don’t know why, but I find it amusing that the dude spammed this post about him.

politics @lemmy.world•“Is Fish Meat?” One Justice’s Answer Shows Why the Supreme Court Is So Broken.
19·2 years agoI get the need to have a distinction between fish flesh and other meats such as beef, pork, and chicken, but using the same logic as in this article, I’ve always thought of fish as part of the general “meat” category. It confuses me how Catholics do the “no meat, yes fish” thing. Maybe there’s some etymological explanation for why our current-day definition of meat doesn’t explicitly have this distinction (assuming it ever did), but if there is, that context seems to have been lost long ago. For some reason, many people now just reflexively believe that fish is not meat – even non-Catholics.
How is $100 a cash grab? First of all, just removing ads is $20. The $100 Ultra option is for a bunch of additional features like cloud sync (which is an ongoing cost, mind you). Secondly, you don’t have to pay the lifetime cost; you can choose a subscription model instead. And how is it a “donation”? You’re making no sense.

1·2 years agoDang, and you don’t even know that Wikipedia entries appear in Google searches? Wow. I assumed your age would mean you’d at least know how to Google, but you’ve proven me incorrect! The funny thing is that my comment wasn’t even in response to your link; it was because you said you are old as dust.
What exactly is the point you are trying to make? Whether the dev gets money via ads or subscriptions doesn’t change the “devs having to eat” aspect. How does it become a cash grab when ads become involved?
