  • I would echo OKB_69’s comment exactly. The blast shield not only protects the portion of the suppressor that sees the most heat and energy from direct erosion, but also creates a much larger mating surface that will be less affected by heat. 1/2-28 threads are only 36 thousandths of an inch tall, so with direct mount you’ve got a very small amount of plastic between hot barrel threads, and which will soften and allow the suppressor to droop and incur baffle strikes much faster than a blast shield mount.

I haven’t been staying up-to-date with the FTN project after I built mine. Has a Breek replacement been settled on? If so, any chance that it is compatible with the breek muzzle devices I already have?

  • Yeah, when mesh utilization gets too high, the mesh starts having issues because radios can’t find an opening to transmit. I’ve seen a lot of the meshtastic subs for certain cities calling for everyone to switch to medium fast when utilization gets high.

I also keep my pocket mode on client-mute because there are usually much better positioned nodes around to repeat traffic, and mine was just adding to the congestion.

  • Thanks for posting!

Someone was watching the control numbers while submitting multiple form1s right after midnight, and it was increasing at a rate of 55/minute in the first few hours. I am really interested to see how many applications are submitted this year.

I submitted quite a few SBR and suppressor applications this morning. Fingers crossed that one of the lawsuits is successful that is challenging the “tax registry” justification now that there is no tax, but I’m going to get enough approved stamps to last my lifetime before the next budget reconciliation bill. It could just as easily go to $10k stamps if those lawsuits are unsuccessful and they’re not removed from the NFA entirely.

Let’s bump those numbers up so far that nobody can argue they aren’t in common use.

  • Yeah, I was misremembering exactly how APRS worked. I had a higher power mobile in my vehicle set up to digipeat packets from my handheld, but I guess that most mobile/handheld APRS radios are not digipeating. I just liked that with APRS the repeating stations name was appended to the packet, and I also liked that you could specify a path if desired.

Sometimes I am using meshtastic with just a couple of nodes in the middle of nowhere, and it currently works great for that. But at my house I’ve got a rooftop node, and then there is a mountaintop repeater many miles away that the rooftop node can hit, and a static node in FarAwayTown on the other side of the mountain. If I were able to set a path to “hop3” in the first scenario, but change it to “rooftop,mountaintop,FarAwayTown,hop3”, it would allow me to communicate to those in FarAwayTown without bogging down the local mesh. I was pretty stoked that I could create solar meshtastic nodes to stick on a rooftop or nearby mountaintop for less than $20 to extend range, but doing so seems to cause a lot of congestion locally.

Then again, it is likely that I have no idea what I am talking about and need to study up on meshtastic 😆 I’m pretty new to this.

  • My Wio Tracker L1 Pro came with the rp connector, if I understand it correctly. The antenna has a center socket, while the device has a pin in the center.

I’ve only been using mine for a week or so with the factory antenna. Range doesn’t seem much better than my T1000-e with an internal antenna. I’ve been eyeballing a 10dbi whip that was recommended by others; it is not an rp, but it is $14 and comes with the appropriate ipex connector.

  • I am curious if New Mexico intends to apply HB0038 UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON CONVERSION DEVICE to FRTs, because they didn’t use the standard definition for machinegun. For the federal definition, it was determined in carghill that “function of the trigger” related to the trigger itself moving rather than the squeeze of the trigger finger, but this NM definition sounds like it is focused on the action of the finger…

“(1) “fully automatic weapon” means a weapon that shoots, is designed to shoot or can be readily restored to shoot more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single and continuous held pull of the trigger;”
