Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•With a Lock on State Government Control, Virginia Democrats Now Face Difficult Decisions on Data Centers and Renewable Energy6·5 hours agoChris Miller, with the Piedmont Environmental Council, which works to preserve Virginia’s countryside, said the election’s results made it clear that lawmakers need to “take a hard look” at the impact of data center development.
A senior attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center, which represents environmental groups in Dominion rate cases, said his group is looking for “smart growth” in data centers, and “easing the fossil fuel restrictions in the VCEA would only help pad corporate profits. It would be terrible for Virginians.
“We need to make sure communities are on board and that we can power this industry in a way that’s good for Virginians,” said Nate Benforado, the senior attorney. “If we aren’t proactive, and let utilities go all-in on a risky gas buildout, energy bills will skyrocket, air pollution will increase, and our communities will be put in harm’s way—all for an industry that could be in the middle of a market bubble

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•YouTube deleting videos documenting Israeli human rights violations
7·8 hours agoIt is hard, video is the most data heavy type of social meda, so I think we should keep our expectations reasonable.
That being said, Peertube is already pretty damn cool. The foundations are there and it is really exciting.
One of the clear benefits to Peertube’s architecture is how video content is naturally enhanced by being linked to from other other places (like lemmy). Peertube embraces that and for a lot of communities centered around video creators I think that cleanness and simplicity as a nexus point is going to start eventually making Peertube more attractive as a base way to link to a specific video even if most of their viewers actually watch it on youtube.
From there the path to becoming more widely used as a video platform I think is clear.

4·15 hours agoStop condescending me, Kamala campaigning with Liz Cheney daughter of deceased war criminal Dick Cheney while utterly silencing Palestinian voices was what lost the US presidential election, not progressives.
No, this is a tea party moment for the left, we don’t need the Democratic Party, they need us and they are still refusing to behave like they do.

6·16 hours agoI refuse to believe real people and not fascists agitators can have opinions this brain dead.
This is exactly why people with your perspective are destroying this country and keep losing elections to fascists, y’all refuse to believe reality and instead feel the need to force a moral judgement on votors not giving your shit candidates votes automatically because “other side bad”.
It’s been seen time and time again that democrats losing shifts them right.
Thats what happens.
That is their choice, not mine.

7·16 hours agoCongratulations, people like you are why Democrats lose when they try to appeal to what they perceive to be centrist views and betray their base for massive corporations :)
Democrats lose when they fail to turn out their base because their base knows they are full of shit…

9·16 hours agoNo, the Democratic Party is selectively missing the meaning of “compromise” only when it comes to shutting down progressives, they are happy as hell to hand power to conservatives.
I know what compromise looks like and I reward it when I see it.

8·16 hours agoAbsolutely, but I will not keep falling in line for candidates that would rather lose than listen to me and publicly and emphatically support the very reasonable policies I want.
At a certain point my vote is earned, it has to be or else I will be ignored.

The human passengers weren’t responsible for driving the vehicle, their lack of awareness is a feature of getting a taxi ride?
