News@lemmy.world•Trump considering raising refugee cap to bring in more white South Africans
1·17 hours agoSo, birthrate drops, just funnel in more people who don’t know America’s corruption, and now jobs markets are fucked with over-crowding while the billionaire class gets more bodies to leech off of. Great plan.

News@lemmy.world•Proton CEO warns global age verification push will mean "the death of anonymity online"
3·1 day agoWell it was Mark Zuckerburg who’s made the big push for it… You know, offload responsibility from his platform being addicting and all… Plus, both sides are equally corrupt, so really it’s time to move to something new. Forward, Green, Reform, Libertarian, etc.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Illinois Democrats approve redistricting reform, Republicans cry foul
1·2 days agoI’m familiar with what it is, reread my comment. Not familiar enough with the actual maps of how Illinois is configured, so I wouldn’t understand what they’re trying to change, outside of what the article says is being proposed. Look at VA though, they passed something beneficial to the dems and now courts are fighting it iirc from another post.

1·2 days agoI’m not familiar enough with the maps, but I do know Illinois is corrupt af so it wouldn’t surprise me. Not a fan of Pritzker…

Android@lemmy.world•Privacy Setup for Android 16 with GrapheneOSEnglish
4·2 days agoYeah, to add to that basically, security is layered. More than people realize…
You’ve got the OS, the apps, the accounts used, the radio permissions tied up the drive out apps (WiFi, BT, NFC, GPS), search engines, web pages/browsers, the network (DNS especially), the IMEI (device ID) & IMSI (SIM ID), more too I’m sure.
Fixing one doesn’t fix it all, like how many people used incognito mode on Chrome and thought that was actually private 🤣
My wife would just sell my data.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you (a regular American citizen) had actionable, insider knowledge about the US Federal Government/Military and felt the public should know, how would you tell everyone?
12·3 days agoThe public cares, but are mostly powerless because it’s extremely difficult to coordinate efforts across so many states and distance.

18·3 days agoThat didn’t matter for me recently. On a site, flights in cart, looked at rental car for <5 minutes and the outbound flights jumped ~$60/ticket in that time “due to demand” when the flight was 80%empty…
Got on my phone, on data (so new browser, new IP) still prices are higher. Hopped on my old phone over VPN to change region, checked out a different leave date, checked a couple, went back to my original date and flights were $40 cheaper (so still $20 more than before) but they gotta know based on Geo IP and time of inquiries it’s probably all the same person, smh.
What a scam!!

Games@lemmy.world•Xbox Game Pass is getting a price reduction.English
10·3 days agoAmen! Greedy bastards! Maybe think about how insulting it is to try and squeeze even more out of your loyal customers in financially stressful times. Disconnected. A price drop would need to revert to 2018 when it was $15/mo. We don’t need all those mediocre games in Game pass. We can’t even install all of them with the measly 1TB storage!!

Games@lemmy.world•Let's discuss ideas how Game Pass should be structured and pricedEnglish
3·3 days agoHow about just bring back online MP for $5/mo at 12mo purchase of $60. I stupidly joined in the GP tiers and watched it skyrocket from $10 to $30 and when my grandfathered price tier ended at $20, I canceled everything. Just shy of 20 years on Xbox down the drain! At one point MS had a bundle of everything that was $20/mo and that was Gold, Office, Skype minutes,1TB SkyDrive (before rebrand), it was decent.
Now they went from getting an annual $240 GP, $150 Office, and me still buying a bunch of games to now ditching the ecosystem until further notice. Greedy bastards!

Amen. Been saying this a while. He knew this shit was coming so he’s was prepared with this Ace up his sleeve.
Step 1: get people addicted, monetize it to no end
Step 2: cover it up and lie about it being fine, spread misinformation of you have to
Step 3: plan a scapegoat tactic as a backup just in case. Maybe 2.
Step 4: buy out politicians who’ll support you when it’s time to take action; like “age verification” as a redirect (as if the gov has ever fine anything promptly!)
Step 5: Get the media to sort of drop coverage to get people to forget about it with other stuff, and watch the lawsuits and trials fade away into the background as there’s no more media coverage for it.
