During the agents’ violent attack on a delivery worker Saturday morning in DC, bystanders repeatedly demanded the agents share their badge numbers. One of them—his face fully obscured by a black balaklava—eventually shot back, “Do I have to answer to you?”

“You guys are ruining this country. You know that, right?” one bystander said to the agents at one point during the incident. An agent, ironically clad in a rainbow face mask, replied “Liberals already ruined it.”

_

Last week on stage at the Netroots conference in New Orleans, I spoke with Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (D-IL) about ICE: specifically that she believes it should be abolished. It’s a stance that’s considered far left, but after witnessing ICE and other federal agents in DC this week, abolishing ICE should be the baseline Democratic position.

“ICE is a terrorist organization,” Ramirez told me. “It needs to be defunded and needs to be abolished.”

ICE is becoming a paramilitary organization, Trump’s personal army. It isn’t really fulfilling its supposed role for which it was created in the first place.

Sadly that war is a meat grinder for both sides. Just the ruling class of Russia and the ruling class of the West throwing working class bodies at their useless wars.

Edit: Russia is the aggressor invading a sovereign nation illegally. I’m not talking about right and wrong of nation states. But the wests policy of “fighting to the last Ukrainian” is also disgusting. 70% of Ukrainians want an end to the hostility now. Their blood is being used by the west to fight a war they cannot win.

Right!? It was supposed to be a paramilitary organization that harassed, assaulted, disappeared, and murdered people crossing the border. SMH truly lost their way…

It absolutely is fulfilling the role it was created for. It’s just not fulfilling the role that it was stated to be created for.

I really don’t understand how cons think liberals “ruined” anything. This country could be very great if the cons would stop trying to make everyone’s lives miserable by constantly poking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

Increasingly, both here on Lemmy as well as elsewhere, I seem to be seeing an awful lot of what I’d label as inter-generational bullshit that seems designed to distract from the very same thing (the centimillionaire/billionaire class).

For the most part, Gen X is ignored in a lot of this, but I see a lot of people acting as if their generation (Gen Y/Z for the most part) has a special class of problems no one else had, and the boomers are the worst generation in history or something. With almost zero context or sense of history and a whole lot of erasure of people’s experiences, LOL. It’s actually kind of embarrassing to see it when I see there are liberals/leftists doing this, too. Talking about a “gerontocracy” in the political class. Falling for the “term limits” bullshit, even.

Those of us that have been around a bit and are trying to pay attention remember seeing boomers saying the same thing when they were younger, as well as Gen Xers, and it’s even with all the 'net at our fingertips now, I see both my generation and younger generations saying the same dumb shit.

I’m still waiting for the trial, where I’ve agents were gunned down for self defense.

and there will be a trial regarding the right to defend yourself from masked unidentified gangs kidnapping people.

if the decision goes against fascist ideals, then the Supreme court will intervene. and the 2A nuts will suck fash cock and celebrate that it’s bad to raise against a tryranic government.

I’m glad you asked. We’re seriously thinking about arming the children. Only semi auto for the kids though and teachers get full auto. Cops will just carry grenade launchers and rockets now, for their safety. That should finally take care of the school shooting problem. We tried arming the cops and putting them in schools, but that just created a soiled underpants problem and didnt save any kids at all.

These guys are total pussies. Either shoot them or unmask them. They are already on camera so swarm them and pull down a few masks. Once you ID a few of them publicly, the rest will drop like flies.

And lose your jobs, your homes, and your freedom in the process as you get prosecuted for assaulting federal agents where the authorities have an incentive to make an example out of you to deter future incidents.

I’m not expecting the world to change from holding hands and singing hymns, but insulting people (who already started confronting them instead of just pretending not to see) for not sacrificing more than I’d have to seems rather narrow-minded to me.

Considering the mass surveillance well underway, the window to organize effectively has already closed. Doing so puts you in as much danger unmasking an agent and in this scenario they will just slap the terrorism label on it and that’s the end of the conversation.

It’s preferable to mass organize but it’s too late now. Keep fighting. We are going to lose but we are going to make this as difficult and expensive as possible anyway. They don’t get to be comfortable.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of the voting population seems to support them, which is part of how we got here in the first place. The best argument for a free and open democracy is what happens with any of the alternatives, but people have a tendency to forget, and opportunists are great at using difficult times to garner support.

    Liberals already ruined this country

    Is he wrong though?

    nuance

Talking about the broad liberal who values hierarchy and private property. That’s exactly who ruined this country. Not that I agree with how this guy is going about trying to fix it. But whether you’re talking about putting us in our techno capitalist subscription based dystopia, or the land that was burned and decimated to lay its foundation, liberals deserve all the credit.

I lived in DC for 6 years and always wore my seatbelt. Never had any issues. I doubt a senator would be driving through the areas where you would have an issue too.
