I mean, his strategy didn’t work - but what is disturbing is that there are women who have low self esteem or were raised to be submissive and “traditional”, and his behavior acts as a filter, so that only those women will date him …

Christian fundamentalist women are the most likely to be skeptical of therapy and to prefer pastoral guidance over therapy, unfortunately - also, I have my own doubts that therapy alone would be sufficient, but it’s still better than nothing

That’s why I would always talk about religion and politics on the first date. It’s gonna come up, it’s most likely gonna introduce a deal breaker (Americans suck), so let’s check early.

“Who does that on the first date? You’re weird, Explodicle!” Yeah I know, weird dates only please.

The older I get the more absurd it sounds to me whenever anyone tells me “keep social/romantic life and politics separate!”

No. Politics relate to our fundamental values. In addition they relate to our control of the environment. There’s almost nothing better to talk about than politics

you don’t build a relationship on the kind of pizza toppings you like

So in my early 20s I had this gf who I would go shoplifting with, and make food for unhoused people with.

Pizza toppings were a genuinely large part of that relationship.

If he demands to be the breadwinner because he’s a man, then what role is actually left for his partner other than bread eater?

One can’t be like “I will do the work and provide for you, but you cannot be content being provided for”, because that’s just absolutely braindead.

“Traditional” gender roles say the man is the “breadwinner” and the woman cares for the house.

I’d bet he was picking an argument and expected her to say that she planned to work. Maybe there was some hope that someone desiring to be a trad wife wouldn’t find the first message off putting, but my money says his main goal was arguing and he blocked her because she’s cleverer than he.

I’m just a bit baffled tbh, do you reckon he was asking “what’s your role” as a rhetorical question? Because there’s no way he genuinely cares what she says, right?

I guess… Unless her profile said “as a man you must be the breadwinner”, or gave off similar vibes to that? And that’s what he was responding to, as a reply to her and not just a total bolt from the blue?

Just such a weird message 😂

I’m honestly not too sure where else to post this kind of content. ‘Witches vs Patriarchy’ does seem like it should be more witchy content than this. But there’s no plethora of ‘blatant misogyny’ and ‘men and females’ type communities here like Reddit. And !feminism@beehaw.org seems like it’s more for articles and things of actual substance than memes or screenshots.

The fact that she came up with a clever response rather than just saying “Yeah…we’re done here.” Is more than this Ralph Kramden wannabe deserves, to be honest.

I actually find the answer incredibly funny and witty. I could see myself saying what he said but in an entirely sarcastic and mocking tone, basically making fun of that whole super macho male stereotype. Had a woman responded to me that way, I would have been smitten.

      Right?

The entire idea of predefined “roles” in a relationship is asinine.

Unless they’re cool roles. I’ll be the wizard, you can be the barbarian. Or whatever idc.

My wife and I have traded being the bread winner back and forth over the years. We always called the one not making any money at the time the “bread loser”

This has given me a hilarious mental image. For whatever reason, you and your wife are discussing who should be the one to take on more hours at work. The choice shall be defined by something akin to gladiatorial combat. On a pedestal above you is a fancy loaf of bread. When the battle finishes, the winner cheers and holds the bread over their head like a wrestling championship belt
