So a few years ago I worked as a stripper for like a year and a half to pay for some things. Looking back I really regret doing it. I’m always about people finding out about it in the future and it effecting my employability. So far nobody except a few friends know about and I hope to keep it that way but I’m worried that in the future it could come back to bite me.

Is there anyway I can keep this thing permanently hidden and if not then what should I do in the future if someone finds out? Like, how badly would it effect my image and is there anything I can do about it? What do I say to people of they find out?

You’re paranoid. No really. When it happens the first time, it will make time go slow, your heart will race, you will feel like you’re on fire, your pits will sweat, and you will have no idea what you’re gonna say.

And afterwards, you’ll think about that moment and cringe and mention it to someone who was there and they’ll tell you they didn’t think you were freaking out and in fact you handled it like a badass and everyone gained a newfound respect for you that day.

Seriously. Shame is powerful because of you, not because of them. You’ll get through it. You’ll end up more powerful, not less.

Genuine question, how would someone finding out about it affect your employability? Unless the person who finds out is your boss and he has a grudge against sex workers, it’s not your employer’s job to be policing your past actions if they have no bearing on your current employment.

“But if you’re wanting to keep people from finding out then make sure you delete any digital reference to it, especially if it can be tied to you. Like this post would be bad if you use this username elsewhere, or if you later reveal enough information on this account to identify you. Do regular internet searches of your name and try to remove content you don’t like.”

Well, there isn’t much evidence of it online. Most things where done it person and I’ve never used this username before. Also, if there was I don’t think you could remove it from the Internet. I’m not Chris Chan.

Do you need to run from it? In your post you say you regret it, but there is no shame in it. If someone really cares that much about it, perhaps that’s just a signal that they don’t need to be around you.

Worst case scenario some skeeve comes into your current job claiming he recognizes you. At which point you get offended and deny everything. Unless there’s a bunch of pictures and videos floating around of you from your days as a stripper but as far as I know that’s not exactly allowed in strip clubs?

The club I worked in did you just weren’t allowed to record or take photos of anything.
