This is why I’m a huge advocate for at least one mandatory safety course as a condition of gun ownership nationally. Yes, you’ll probably have to pay a fee for that course, creating a small hurdle for obtaining your second amendment rights. But, had this guy taken a class, he would have learned one of the most fundamental rules of firearms, which to know what lies beyond your intended target and controlling the direction of your discharges. And while I’m assuming it’s very legal to plink a can in your backyard in Oklahoma, it’s a matter of individual personal and civic responsibly to ensure that your activities to not infringe on your neighbors’, namely the right to life.
Should this guy have been at a range? Probably. But the fact that he didn’t have the common sense to take precations highlights the need for compulsory education in these regards.
Many states already do this. California makes you take a multiple-choice exam, for example.
I live in CA, and that FSC test is a joke, nevermind that many shops have the answer to the test on signs behind the counter. Even then, I’d still say hands on training, like say an 8 hour class, would be more beneficial.

Are you only in favor of putting a paywall in front of the second amendment or the others too? What about attending a government course on properly using the internet before being allowed freedom of speech, or a course on world religions before being allowed to choose one to practice?

The gun price is also a paywall. Do you think guns should be free to obtain?
How about we make the class free if it’s your first attempt? If you fail and want to take it again it’s 100 bucks or whatever.
- Treat every weapon as though it is loaded and chambered.
- Never aim your weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy.
- Keep your trigger finger straight and along the receiver until you intend to fire.
- Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire.
- Always be aware of your target and that which lies beyond it.
Life in prison.
Stephens County deputies were called to a home north of Comanche on Christmas Day after Sandra Phelps was shot while sitting on the front porch of a home and holding a child, according to a sheriff’s affidavit. Witnesses said Phelps said “ouch,” and then collapsed.
If only that baby were armed, it could have returned fire and everything would have been okay. More guns is the solution!
The concept “missed bullet doesn’t dematerialize” is too difficult for some people, preventing them from creating/visiting a proper shooting range.
Out of sight, out of mind.
We are so fucking stupid as a society.
Guys, is America fucked up?
No, that’s just what mainstream media wants you to believe.
🤔
If they are blocks away, are they a neighbor? What is the geographic boundary to determine neighborness?
Its relative. In rural areas growing up l, a neighbor could be miles away. Suburban, I would consider anyone in a neighborhood or shared street as a neighbor.
Now I now live in a walkable urban area that has officially recognized neighborhoods with established boundaries.
In this case bullet range.
