      There’s an old Soviet joke:

A man goes to a newspaper stand every day, buys a copy of Pravda, glances at the front cover, curses, and throws it away.

After a few weeks of this the seller just has to ask what’s going on: “why do you always look at the cover but never inside?”

      “I’m looking for an obituary.”

“An obituary? But those are in the back!”

“Oh no, the obituary I’m looking for will be on the front page.”

If it’s publicly accessible uncountable bathroom breaks will be had there. I highly doubt it will be though. He absolutely knows people despise him deeply. He’s kind of made it his personality to ensure that.

We need a people’s Trump memorial restroom. Actually you could probably make money with one if you’re in a blue city with decent foot traffic. Just stick some of his photos in the urinals and toilets and set aside plenty of money for cleaning supplies.

The midterms are definitely getting cancelled. US citizens need to go all in in opposing this. General Strike now before it’s too late.

He cannot cancel elections. Elections are state run, congresspeople’s terms still end, and there is no law that says otherwise. We can just go the fuck ahead without him.

While you are correct, on paper, what you’re describing is just some words on a paper that this administration absolutely does not give a single shit about.

We’ve never seen anything like what’s happening here in the states before. Never. This hasn’t happened once in the history of the country.

But it has happened in similar ways in other countries. Using those as an example, we should be very, very, very concerned that he’s absolutely going to cancel the midterms somehow. I guarantee it.

And if I’m wrong, then thank fucking god. I’d absolutely love to be wrong about this.

        But world history says otherwise.

Okay and when he refuses to honour those elections? What then? He tried to overthrow the government last time he was told to leave. This time he IS the government. He isn’t leaving.

Yeah, if he canceled the midterms there’d be a lot of State turmoil. It would probably end the United States as we know it and break us up into smaller countries. Been waiting for that kind of outcome forever but not exactly like this.

If the US has midterms, Trump will be in lame duck status. This was supposed to be a power check for any president, but they are working hard to not allow any elections.

I’m curious - what difference do you really think the release of the Epstein files is going to make? People have made it clear they’re okay with pedophilia and child abuse, as long as “the good guys” are the diddlers. So what difference is the full release of the Epstein files going to make to the average 10-second-attention-span propaganda buyers, really?

      That’s just a bonus.

What Trump really wants is “justification” to turn the military on his enemies. I’ve seen so many people say “He doesn’t need an excuse,” but right now, he and the people around him clearly still think he does and they’re itching for one. So they keep trying to manufacture it with these ICE escalations hoping the “Radical Left” will start a violent riot they can crack down on and he can finally truly be the Strongman he’s always wanted to be.

Last I read Trump said it was to be talked about in two months or in twenty days. He said both these things in consecutive sentences, so who the fuck knows. It’ll have to be before the midterms regardless.

“How we have to even run against these people. Now, I won’t say, ‘Cancel the election. They should cancel the election,’ because the fake news will say, ‘He wants the elections canceled. He’s a dictator.’”

Now obviously trump is a fascist and an awful president and all that, but in all fairness this article did exactly what he said they’d do.

Have you seen some of the “fixes” they have proposed for that?

My favorite is that they’re gonna claim that Trump actually won in 2020, that this is actually already his 3rd term and thus he can continue to run because they’ve already invalidated the Two Term Limit.

Those are definitely the infinitely more likely ones, yeah. Especially considering that as I understand it from other discussions on the various Speakership fights, the Speaker of the House does not even need to be Member of the House of Representatives.

I’m of course just talking about the one that holds a special place in my heart because it makes me laugh at how utterly deranged these fuckers are. Especially because you just know that even knowing that the two you mentioned are infinitely more likely, Trump probably himself wants to do the one I was talking about more because it erases his loss and massages his ego.

But yes, you are correct that the ones where they cheat him into office using the succession rules are far more likely to be the fix if he doesn’t manage to suspend elections entirely.
