I love that film for many many reasons, but the incel vibes are thick.
have you read the book? while visually appealing, the movie did not do the book’s content justice.
major theme is destroying the traditional definition of manliness pushed on us by society… fighting ourselves to become our own boss/master in order to create our own definition of manhood.
I heard some conspiracy theorist say they did that to the movie because they thought young males interested in the fighting and incel nonsense wouldn’t both reading the book and exploring the concept.
Now im not saying they’re right, but, it definitely tracks.
The easier explanation is that they had to distill a 200 page novel down to 120 minutes of film and convince people to give them money to make it so they could make those people more money… the irony is thick.

I did read the book. In fact, both the film and the book are some of my all time favourites.
The book hits differently, also because the written medium anchors it more closely to the narrators perspective. Also, it’s pretty clear in both works that it’s not meant as an endorsement.
Still, there’s a lot of that typical unspecified Gen X resentment left and it really squicks me out.
