Since I first played Disco Elysium back in 2023-2024, I really wanted to play another game like it. I’ve heard that another game is coming out of Za/Um with a similar art style and world building to DE. However, knowing that Za/Um is owned by scummy people now, I can only anticipate that the game will probably have bad reviews on day 1. What is worse is that it may be the last game out of the studio for another decade.

I’m keeping a very close eye on Summer Eternal to produce a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium. I really don’t think ZA/UM has the talent anymore.
It seems like it could be really interesting. I’m not sure what I expected looking at their website or if I should even be surprised - lol.
Ambivalent is probably correct. What I’ve seen of the writing doesn’t live up to Disco, which makes sense because none of the writers remain at ZA/UM. I will still probably pirate it and see what it’s like. Anton Vill is still at the studio (he drew the art for the Thought Cabinet) and I like his art. They have said some potentially interesting things about expanding the Thought Cabinet mechanically and making it more interactive and complex - which is pretty much just implementing scrapped DE features, but still.
The true follow-up will be one of the spiritual successors made by the people who were actually involved in the writing and world building: Hopetown (Martin Luiga is involved), Summer Eternal (Aargo Tuulik is involved) and whatever Red Info is cooking (Robert Kurvitz, Helen Hindpere and Aleksandr Rostov are involved).
What about Dark Math’s Tangerine Antarctic ?
I dunno, any resemblance of what Argo Tuulik once worked on in that project seems to be washed away at this point. Kaur Kender was certainly involved in the making of Disco Elysium, but I wouldn’t call him a “core creative”. It’s not a project I’ve been particularly excited for personally.
Esoteric Ebb is supposedly really good. It even got Argo Tuulik speaking out in favour of it - that’s quite a huge accomplishment imo. Came out yesterday and there’s a demo too
