My concern is that: Telegram is Russian. Sure, the guys who founded it perhaps portray themselves as privacy advocates themselves against the Kremlin, who have moved to the Middle East as part of this. However: -Russia’s in business with the Middle East -Russia’s in business with the Russian mob -there is cross-polenation that can be expected between entities within these, such as sharing of useful information -the guys who run Telegram also currently still run Russia’s largest domestic facebook-clone social media -Telegram runs the two largest Russian-mob recruitment/networking-type channels. Therefore, it is a small leap to assume something like that: if American or other world-wide activists are utilizing Telegram for its “privacy”, that at anytime their info can be accessed by the Kremlin or the Russian mob, which is possibly passed on to the Trump government in America or other governments friendly with Russia (there have been numerous allegations of Trump/Russia involvement, some speculative).
look at this: still think im nuts? https://lemmy.world/post/43641859
