I bought Nightreign last summer expecting a “fortinte-clone” without a plot, for nerds addicted to bossfights (me). Now, after finishing all basic characters quests, I realised I’ve been totally fooled. As a fan of personal, intimate and emotional storylines, I prefer them to epic tales about gods and glory, which comprise most of the base game and the DLC. Finding out that every character has one such story you have to unravel was a good sign. But I didn’t expect they are so well-crafted: mindblowing twists, one of the best cutscenes in the series (I’m not exaggerating), and, finally, lore that actually filling the gaps in the base game worldbuilding! I cannot recommend this game enough. And I think I’m obsessed. Don’t know for how long, and would I actually grind in the “ranked” mode, but FromSoftware (and Junya Ishizaki personally) have my biggest respect once again.

    I’m playing mostly solo so I’m behind a bunch of character stories, (the ones I suck at and don’t like playing much. )But I agree, initially I was not expecting anything deep from this game or on the lore department. The storytelling format is a welcome change, and it fits this particular gameloop nicely. The nightlord bossfights are also fressshhh a-f. Not a perfect game, but very very fun and addictive.

      I think Darkdrift Knight and Night Aspect are the most satisfying. Middle-sized solo bosses have always been my favourites. But I’d say all fights are pretty cool, even gank fights are designed well.

      I’m playing mostly in a group. With randoms, but planning to do with friends. For me it’s more fun then solo and adds to the experience. But learning the map, characters and mechanics is better solo. And guide videos are invaluable here, since the learning curve is so much steeper

        Solid choices, Heolstor is a superb fight, my fave along with libra.

        I feel solo is easier, and no preassure about being a good teamate hehe (when it’s good it’s goood in teams but it gives me some performance anxiety.) I think I will check a guide to learn how to sinergyze with other characters better. my favourites are executor and iron eye…( Dutchess surprised me a lot with how much of a beast she can be, so I wanna learn her better.) how about you?

          I understand what you’re talking about. I played on a new map, chosen it once by mistake, didn’t know where to go, how to complete challenges, and fell to death several times. That was a shame. That’s why learning stuff is better solo. But i enjoy the fun of jolly cooperation, all thr silly stuff. Like, once i played in a team with randoms and we were steamrolling all the bosses. We got to the second day boss earlier, and were t-posing for a half a minute before it appeared. That’s what i miss playing solo :) Also the epic comebacks.

          That’s why one of my favourite characters for multiplayer is Revenant, love her ult, and the whole original concept. But it’s hard to choose only one. Like, yesterday I had amazing runs with Recluse, even though I underutilize her skill. I also enjoyed completing stories of Guardian and Executor, gotta play them more. I literally don’t have unfavourable characters, everyone is lowkey satisfying. Maybe Wylder is a bit boring, since it’s my standard ER/DS build
