I used to be SO excited to get my new Highlights magazine in the mail each month! I loved the stickers I got with it, and I loved playing the fun games and reading the new stories and comics.
I used to also get their “Puzzle Buzz” magazines, which was their books full of fun different puzzles and games.
Fun fact: Highlights will be 80 this year.
Did you used to get or read the Highlights magazines? Or what magazine subscription did you have as a kid?
We might’ve had a subscription. I think I mostly read it at pediatric doctor’s and dentist’s offices.
Oh fuck yeah. Huge fan of the object finding stuff they did back in the day
The hidden Pictures games!!
I actually was just playing with those on the highlights website yesterday!
There’s a fucking website with the hidden picture games!?!??!!! I know what I’m doing for the next date night
Yep! Go to “highlightskids.com” and click on the “games” button on the menu!
My mom was a “secretary” (read: she was a fucking office manager who ran that entire company while the owner had affairs and did absolutely jack shit). One of the many, many things she did was ordering all the magazines for their office and two other locations.
She got me highlights on the company dime and them sent to our house. Haha
That Gallant fellow seemed like a smug prick but his friend Goofus always got up to fun stuff.
We got a Highlights High Five (for preschool/kindergarten age) subscription for my oldest and she loves it. Every time a new magazine comes in we have to read it in full at least three times.

And Zillions: Consumer Reports for Kids! I read up on which ice cream bars were the best for your money, which action figures were most durable, and why you should lobby your parents to give you an allowance to help teach you financial responsibility (I tried; my mom didn’t buy it).
Loved these. Had them at my doctors office.
Good documentary about the history of “Highlights”…

If you’re in the states, check to see if your local public library includes access to Hoopla — it’s available to stream there.
Sadly I don’t think my local library has Hoopla. Anymore at least.
I believe they used to have it at one point but then they changed to a new thing called Kanopy
gufus and gallant, yo
Yes! I had Highlights and Ranger Rick. I vaguely remember some of the puzzles that were in Highlights, and also Goofus and Gallant.
I got Boy’s Life and Air and Space since my old man was in the air force and I thought planes were pretty awesome.
I was more of a “Dynamite” kid.
I just bought my 3 y/o niece a subscription. They have diversified their publications and now have a magazine for 3-5 year olds, 0-2 year olds, along with the OG highlights that I grew up with. I can’t wait until she is a little older so I can get her zoo books.
I had one as a kid. My mom got both kids a subscription for Christmas this last year.
This and nintendo power 🥲
