Is there any precedent on trying to continue development on a project like this after the loss of its developer? It would be sad to see an end to this design, although I don’t have any idea if it was still being worked on. I had a whole packet of notes from my build of the v1.0.1 beta, including a failure of the new bolt carrier design.

Not sad at all my friend! It’s victory because it exposes the true tyranny of those in power in contrast of the people its supposed to represent. Those in power do things like this to stay in power and leave you vulnerable and dependent on their power. They never balance it out. If they see a threat to that power, they create legislation to make law abiding citizens out as criminals and flaunt the arrested person out as a lesson for the sake of fear mongering and falling to compliance. Meanwhile they stroll around with law enforcement, personal bodyguards, private security and or PMC’s for their own protection. Ask me how I know? Not saying they’re aren’t some bad apples that come into the art and start doing things that shouldn’t be done which puts us in the negative sight of public opinion. Anyways that’s just my 2 cents. The signal needs to keep going because one day we just might have to step up against tyranny when those in power try to disarm everyone and do whatever the heck they want and to their own people. History surely shows a record of it.
So an important contributor of this community will probably spend years of his life in prison and this is somehow a victory?
Most people will just understand “illegal arms dealer got caught by the cops”, this exposes nothing people weren’t aware of.
People already know building weapons illegally can get you into trouble, and the majority of the population is fine with it.

You have no idea what I do for a living do you? Victory comes in many forms my friend. It’s a victory because his sacrifice hasn’t gone unnoticed plain and simple. Rights get taken away every day and if you’re here in the U.S. then you most likely fail to understand that the freedom that you have at this moment came at the cost of others. Some of them were tortured, beaten, punished, arrested, and even died. Now that attention is being brought to the hobby albeit the fact that its negative attention, are you gonna be one of those whose like I’m done because I don’t want to get arrested or are you gonna stand up for it even if it means getting arrested. He made a choice. Are you gonna call Carioca stupid for making that choice as well? He gave us the Urutau and he kept doing his thing until he got arrested. He didn’t make a scene, he didn’t resist. He got his masterpiece out here and were printing it. No one, not even you can take that from him. It doesn’t matter how much legislation is created and no matter what happens to him, it already out here in the world and its not going to stop. That’s the victory.
Its no different than a bunch of members here trying to push for making FRT’s for everything and making so many of them that it can’t be stopped. Making so many to the point that they’ll have to accept it. If they choose not to accept it then what are you gonna do. Are you gonna quit because your afraid of getting arrested? What do you think it means and what do you think happens when you fight for your rights?

So according to you if you cut your arm and you don’t die it’s a victory? Well the fact that you didn’t die is perhaps something to be happy about, but still losing the arm in the first place is worse than keeping it, so not really a victory.

It would be even more sad if he had died. Expecting something doesn’t mean not being sad about them. We know everyone of us will die, yet we’re still sad when people we love leave this world. Or when bad things happen to them.

It wouldn’t convince anyone who’s not already convinced. Just like ze carioca’s arrestation won’t expose anything to anybody, because people have their own mental maps where these topics already have their explanations. And this arrestation fits their narrative, so nothing new here. Just a talented man in prison, a waste of talent.

Reddit succeeded at reducing dramatically the content and interactions on the topic. Yes there is this forum, and 3D2A, but there’s much less interaction than before. And 3D2A is heavily censored. And it can be ditched by reddit at any time. Having your community decimated isn’t a victory. A victory is where you make progress. Here went backwards in terms of output (I agree it’s great we have this place but fosscad hat much more volume)
