I absolutely adore finding someone that drops ‘TDS’ in an online convo. Like, me am dumb, what TDS mean? Please eli5. And then they inevitably try to distance themselves, because using anything other than dog whistles is fucking terrifying to MAGA.

Yep! A choice will be made either way so I don’t see the point in not voting. That’s just my $0.02.

You’re already falling with them though?

It’s not like you only enter the country once you vote. You’re already living there. Shit affects you either way.

That’s an analogy, not a false choice. Look up the words, I’ll wait.

Ironically enough, voting for a political party in the US is actually a false dichotomy.

It must be so easy being a liberal. You can just ignore reality on command if someone calls you out. And there is seemingly no ability for you to feel shame.

A false dichotomy isn’t about “fake options”. Indeed, a false dichotomy may have two very real options presented.

Obviously, It’s about restricting options to two instead of many. That is the entire premise of a false dichotomy. I encourage you to read the link you just posted.

To emphasize: the person you replied to isn’t producing a false dichtomoy. They are analogizing YOUR false dichotomy.

Brother, I’m a socialist. When we say “liberal” we are talking about capitalists, not American Democrats.

Not everything is about the US. Take your own advice, and while you’re at it, read a book.

They do share a fair amount in common with MAGA at this point to me. Just they haven’t found their cult yet.

Also, I’m talking the political stances of liberalism, not the misused descriptor for liberal meaning left. Liberalism is not left.

Why would she need to? Trump also has some “inspiring” quotes himself: “Grab em’ by the pussy.” “If she wasn’t my daughter I would be dating her.” “I think she’s going to have big breasts like her mother.” I won’t list more because it makes my flesh curdle but you can find them yourself.

It’s so depressing. I mean, it can be nice to see there’s a place where stupid people have stupid problems, to give my problems some perspective, but it’s impossible now to open the web without non-stop American stupidity confrontation. It’s nice to go to a theme park, it’s hell to live there. I wish there was an American-free platform. Even Lemmy, which is mostly hosted in Europe, is completely taken over by Murica slop. No wonder those Americans are so self centered, when the entire world has to live in their drama.

I can’t. I’m too poor, my gender is illegal to put on an American passport, and Canada/Mexico aren’t interested in taking asylees or refugees.

Besides, if everyone leaves, no one will be here to fight back.

I don’t have the luxury of fleeing.

That’s true, there need to be people fighting back. But there is a difference in fighting back and being prosecuted for who you are. Being able to fight is a luxury. Know there are programs to help expats in European countries. To find a job, housing, hobbies, meet people, get life started, even tax cuts to make it more attractive. Your gender isn’t illegal to put on a Dutch passport, for example.

The way such tests have always worked historically is that the people in charge of administering them make sure that only people like her can pass it.

I understand the point you’re making, but allowing Clevon to make another 48 kids with his neighbor hasn’t really helped avoid the descent into the hell called Murikkka.

Voting should be like driving; pass a simple test, get the right. Everyone can try, but not everyone will pass. But, since I’m wishing, i might as well hope for an Oompa Loompa that shits ice cream sundaes.

I’ll take idiots making kids and voting rather than allow societies fall straight into fascism by making it easy

Umm, so fascism with extra steps. I’m not disagreeing, btw. I dunno what the solution actually looks like, but doing what we’re doing ain’t it.

First of all, in car-dependent America, damn near everybody does pass regardless of how shitty at real-world driving they are, because the test has been dumbed-down because driving is so “necessary.”

Second, the difference between driving and voting is that people administering driving tests aren’t highly motivated to fail people based on ideology.

For anyone curious, the American right wing wearing diapers in protests actually predates trump’s diaper use. They did it to protest college safe spaces too. I think they just like wearing them at this point
