A Wayland wallpaper daemon for Hyprland that renders GLSL fragment shaders and modular effects to the background layer. Cursor tracking, window geometry awareness, audio reactivity, and live config reload. https://github.com/slastra/hyprglaze
Really fuckin dope! Made a few web displays like this and getting the delay right is an art.
Beautiful work, I feel like this would be great for interactive kiosks and machines that are fixed to a power source.
Thank you! Interesting thought, hadn’t considered any practical application. Fixed to power source for sure, won’t do battery life any favors.
That’s very cool but I hate it :D
Fair, kind of like MSG?
I don’t hate monosodium glutamate…?
big whoop. With the power of migraines some of us have had desktops like this for decades!
Isn’t hyprland the nazi desktop?
yes. it is.
Nope
Which one am I thinking of?
Probably thinking of hyprland: Hyprland is a toxic community
Diluting the word nazi is not good
Calling a spade a spade however is.
Name it LSD?
Wow sick
Neat! It’s a shame it’s only for hyprland…
It relies on Hyprland’s IPC socket. What kind of desktop environment do you use?
Just kwin with KDE Plasma.
Have you ever messed with KWin scripts? I’m not very familiar, but seems more than capable of exposing window geometry and cursor position.
That’s so cool!
What’s the battery life impact like?
The impact?

Sorry, should have been more clear. If you’ve tested it on a laptop, does it hurt battery life significantly?
Don’t apologize, tried to respond with a gif depicting how battery life is impacted. It definitely hurts battery life, some effects more than others, but I haven’t measured. I’ll spend some time optimizing this weekend, but probably won’t ever be something you want on a laptop.
Ah well, that’s kinda what I figured.
Looks like a fluid rendering. Cool.
I think this one came out best, but there are other effects too: https://slastra.github.io/hyprglaze/demo.mp4
neat!!!
can you still see the effect if you constantly have windows maximized, covering the entire screen?
Yes it draws under windows, but whether or not you can see it depends on your Hyprland opacity/gaps
When beryl/compiz became a thing I wasted a lot of time admiring the wobbly windows and 3d desktops; is nice to know that I can just make my windows translucent to enjoy this while still getting shit done. Lol
