I mean, after the kawoosh of the inbound wormhole is done. We know that matter can only travel one way through a wormhole. Radio waves can travel both ways. So what happens if you walk into the event horizon of an inbound wormhole?
I’ve seen scenes where a character sticks their hand, or gun into the event horizon. Notably to ‘hold the door open’. But as long as you remove your hand before the connection terminates, you’re fine. Presumably if you keep a body part in the event horizon when the gate cuts off, you get a hot date with Dr Lam and the surgical team.
But if you fully jump into the event horizon of an incoming wormhole, what happens? Do you bounce back out again? Do you just go to the other side of the event horizon and walk around the back of the Stargate? Do you dematerialize, and if so, do you then get stuck and deleted when the gate finally shuts of? A secret fourth thing?
RDA stopped taking my phone calls.

Of course. Go bother Carter with that technical stuff. He’s got other problems on his mind.
I believe you just get dematerialised and not stored in the gate buffer or sent anywhere.
The zat gun disintegrating things on the third shot shows that E=mc2 does not apply in the Stargate universe, so there is no issue with just erasing a person.
first shot stuns, second kills, third converts the persons mass to free energy causing an explosion equivalent to 2 gigatonne of tnt
That would’ve made zats a way scarier weapon
Yeah, there’s an ep where the gate is on its back and they send a malp through, but it goes straight up and falls back into the event horizon and is lost, and it’s acknowledged as a risk when they send somebody through later.
Season 3, Episode 17 - A Hundred Days
Apophis and his Jafar were able to walk back through an inbound wormhole to Chulak without redialing, so I guess matter can travel both ways if it started on the outbound side.
If you’re referring to the pilot, that was an editing miss. They made it clearer that Apophis redials with a portable device in the director’s cut.
Interesting. Do we get any lore on a portable DHD later on? Sounds like it would have made life a lot easier if they reverse engineered it. They could go back to that planet where the naked old man was stranded.
They never expand on it per se, but it’s shown that the Tau’ri can manually dial gates if they have a power source to charge the gate they can move the ring by hand. The Tollan were able to dial a gate with a portable device I think. The Nox were able to dial a gate telepathically it seems, without even making a kawoosh. Probably the goa’uld mostly expect to have a DHD at most destinations and only carry portable dialers when visiting a sketchy world. Its less of a concern for them because if the destination gate can’t dial out, they can always just travel home by phoning for a ship.
The Stargate where the naked old man was found, he couldn’t dial home because the DHD was broken, and SG-1 couldnt go back after leaving because the building collapsed and buried the gate/tossed it into the sea.
Ernest couldn’t dial home because he didn’t know the address and wouldn’t be able to check the millions of combinations even if the DHD was working.
I bet Ernest was just enjoying the peace and quiet and never thought to try.
Just living his best life freeballing and chilling.
I thought Apophis had that as part of his hand device, not sure which version I have, cause iirc he touches the back of his hand before the wormhole opens to go back. Maybe it is only a “Return to Start” emergency dialer. As a GOD I would imagine they would prefer to have a minion push buttons instead
