🏴‍☠️ Hoist the Black Flag: Pledge to Boycott Lemmy World!

Mateys, we can’t let a mega‑instance captain bully the rest of the fleet just because their ship’s bigger. If Lemmy World tries to throw the FAF overboard, we’re calling for a show of solidarity: a fediverse blockade of Lemmy World in response, until the landlubbers see reason (i.e., there is an acceptable change in their leadership and/or this policy).

This is about mutual aid, not mutiny - standing together so no single admin gets to rule the seas unchallenged. A united armada of smaller instances can absolutely blunt Lemmy World’s outsized influence (and, let’s be honest, their ego).

☠️ A word to the captains: before hoisting colours or locking in a course, we ask ye to let your crew have their say. Run a poll, open the deck for discussion, and listen to the voices aboard your vessel. These seas belong to all of us, and decisions that shape our fediverse should be made together, not from the captain’s quarters alone.

If other captains be keen to chart this course with us, drop anchor and make the pledge public in the comments. The more hands on deck, the harder it is to sink any one of us. Let us know if you are holding a vote!

    I seem to just be getting bits of this story without the full context. And that’s fine, I don’t really want a long read.

    But I will say that I have been boycotting LW since day 1. Not because of a specific bad actor, but simply because it’s the most antithetical instance to fedi principles:

    • centralised because it has grown to a disproportionate extreme. I already minimise participation on any node that has more than 2 standard deviations above the average user count.
    • centralised on Cloudflare. It’s a shitty boot licker of an exclusive tech giant gate keeper. It’s an oppressive walled-garden.

    There is no need to do any digging on conduct beyond that. LW is on par with Facebook as far as I’m concerned simply for those 2 reasons.

    I made a new account not only because I am an anarchist, but also to throw my voice in here. Does that make me an asshole? I don’t know. I’ve been around for a long time, and odds are that overtime many of you may recognize me after having 2 very public crashouts (I’ve gotten better thanks to getting my bipolar meds). I know that I am completely new to this instance, but my vote is a resounding aye.

    I don’t really use this account anymore because of .world. It’s the nazi-bar problem, but with genocidists instead. If Nexus defederates, I’d start using this account again, because I like PieFed better (sorry lemmy devs!)

    But as long as any instances federates with .world, I’m out.

    way ahead of you, I blocked that shitty instance like a year ago, but it’d be great if more people were willing to fully defederate.

    Honestly, I think this was a good thing that they had defederated. I found this instance because of how poorly and jankily run the main instances were. There are also non-stop click bait and potentially AI posted crap, so the less that is in my feed, the better. Just my two cents on it, all drama aside.
