afaik, a lot of the problem with HSR in CA is actually a tiny number of powerful state legislators, who insist the route run thru their little town, even tho that is an idiotic idea

No it’s the relatively tiny amount of superwealthy that actually and actively tell politicians how far left/right they can move. The deep state is real, the Business Plot families won, and as education was defunded and dumbed down as a steady drip-drip-drip, along with the infamous proverbial “memory hole” and keeping people too busy to dig for credible information rather than what mass media serves like drive through fast crap called “food” has made people lazy and complacent while fancying themselves “informed.”
So check your assumptions, right?

We live under a theocracy of Mammon - the personification of greed as a god in a semi-famous part of the Christian bible. I think they meant it as a metaphor but it is genuinely the official state religion of the US. Every decision, moral or material, is made based on it.
