Not buying the new Switch 2 until there’s actually enough games that I want to play. PS5 is out my mind and the Series X is dead to me

RAM and NAND are up so much, they couldn’t keep the old price at this point.

Just discarding an entire market is kinda stupid, but if it helps them sell a few more consoles it might not be

Problem with Nintendo, is it’s mostly just remakes of the same games and characters. Also they screwed any customers who bought games before the switch 1, as you can’t play them on switch.

The switch 1, they never fixed the joycons… They should have recalled and redesigned every joycon… But, for some reason people seem ok with that. Nintendo imho is actually fairly anti consumer

Ps5 I ended up selling. It’s good but I figured I have hundreds of steam games, so there was no real benefit of having a ps5 too.

Use the console you want… But, I’m never buying a Nintendo again. I’m happy to be able to continue playing the same games I bought 15 years ago on the latest steam deck

Nintendo is extremely anti consumer, even anti-fan of their own products.

Why people buy Nintendo products and games years after years is crazy to me.

I bought a Switch 2 and used it to play Donkey Kong and Mario Kart. They were fun, but now there’s no more games for it really.

There’s no new Switch 2 games even lined up right now as far as anyone’s concerned. And they decided it’s better to remake Star Fox again rather than make a new one, it felt like a big middle finger.

I stood in line for hours for the wii on launch… Back then, it was a new interesting product though. I wish I kept it, and all the accessories (especially guitar hero)

I bought a wii u… Sure they don’t fix the touchscreen if it breaks and you need a new one though… Still, there were some cool new games, but, somewhat similar to the Wii’s…

Switch, I understand lining up for it… But, once it was clear that any previous purchases are basically wasted, the joycons were seriously dodgy, and Nintendo was never going to fix it (and many another 5000 mario games), they should have lost people then.

Then they sold the switch 2… You can still only play games approved by nintendo, and really, the library is mainly Nintendo games, or games available on every platform. By now, Steam deck has gotten awesome, and you can STILL play games from your library from 20 years ago. And, you can use other stores if you want, and have a wide range of games, even in the steam store INCLUDING NSFW ones. And, you know those games are going to almost certainly work in the future without repurchase (and, also work on computer).

I literally just bought a humble bundle of 10 games for 20% the price of 1 switch game. And I can play them on computer, TV, Steamdeck, etc.

I’d only pay for nintendo if they were subscription based and thin client. As it stands though, I feel like I’m better off just waiting 20 years until I’m 60 and they’re readily available on emulator

People who didn’t mind to pay alot of money bought the PS5 at launch. Those who didn’t buy it then, were waiting for the price to drop. Increasing it now is not going to get them much sales.

Fiddling with a PC? You buy a PC and it’s done. Install Steam, install games, let’s go.

At best, if you want to switch OSs or try out new things, you’ll spend some time learning how that works. And if you want to try to stretch out the longevity, you can get new RAM, new video card, a replacement CPU. But, all of that is your choice.

As a bonus, you get something way way more powerful than a console that has a web browser, document editor, video/music player, Jellyfin server, streaming platform, whatever you want.

Buy a PC? Ok, let me just go to the PC store and say, “One PC, please.” It’s that simple, right? I don’t have to do hours of research to understand what the components are and then even more research to understand which ones are best?

          Be serious.

It is. You can absolutely buy completely configured and built PCs if you want.

If you go to a computer store and tell them you want a gaming PC to replace your console with X budget you will walk out with one.

That was my initial thought, but they don’t even have a current gen handheld do they?

(And if they do, frankly the marketing team should be fired)

Perhaps the steam machine is a legit concern for them though

Handheld computers are competition to the PlayStation in the sense that Sony would want everyone who owns one to buy a PS5 instead but not in the sense that those consumers having an option is hurting sales significantly. I could not find actual numbers, but analysts seem to be estimating that Valve has sold about 6 million Steam Decks in total. For comparison, Sony sold 1.5 million PS5s last quarter, which is devastating since they sold 2.8 million the year before.

Also, that sales gap is going to get worse in the short term. Instead of raising Steam Deck prices or reducing profit margins, Valve has decided to stop selling systems until RAM prices come back down.

Which is weird to me, because the software and licensing is where all the money is. And it isn’t subject to supply chain issues the way that hardware is.

I bought the original Switch for SMT:V, which then took years to release, and shortly after got a PC release. At first I liked the console, but honestly the Steam Deck is heaps and bounds better.

What really drove me off the fucking edge is how garbage and overpriced Nintendo’s hardware is. They purposely design things to not be repairable and as fucked as possible, and they use horrible quality components to make their stuff.

After sitting in its case in a drawer for a few months, my joycon analogue sticks started melting. The rubber just lost its integrity. If Nintendo cared about that kind of thing, they’d design the joycons to have the tips be able to pop off, but no. Further, the component itself is garbage and drifts. That’s well known. You can get replacement hall effect sticks for $10, or you can buy a new set of joycons for ~$80.

Nintendo could have designed these to be easily maintainable by users, they could’ve designed them to not have the drift problem. They actively chose to be anti-consumer, and with the Switch 2 they doubled down on it.

8bitdo offers a clone of the Switch Pro controller, that’s better, has more features, and somehow they magically manage to keep the price lower than the official Switch Pro controller, despite not being a massive corporation with pockets as deep as Nintendo.

The SEGA Dreamcast had the Guinness World Record for Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in a Single Day.

For this record, set in 1999, it sold >225,100 units to generate $98.4 million USD in revenue. Since then, it has only been replaced by video game software and not consoles (from my research, the Dreamcast was replaced by GTA IV in 2008, and held the record for ~9 years though I dont have any books or historical site references prior to 2008 too verify).

Of course, everyone remembers the Dreamcast for how highly successful it was, and its massive sales numbers.

“Fastest selling console” is a meaningless title when more people buy video games every year compared to the previous year, so “fastest selling console” is always going to be next years console until the market crashes.

Honestly, even with original prices, and even with the rising cost of computers, I don’t see myself investing in anything stationery that isn’t a PC.

I don’t fuck with Nintendo and I don’t see myself buying a Switch any time soon, but this is still 100% more likely to happen than buying a PlayStation.

Another factor: Nintendo actually make games that look like they’re happy being games while most Sony exclusives look like they’d rather be movies and begrudgingly settled for being games. I hate that so much.

Luckily, I don’t have to worry about any of this for now. Steam Deck FTW.

Platinum better find a way to bring Astral Chain to Steam though 😅
