Unfortunately a picture through a window screen, but I snapped a picture of this squirrel chomping on a bone whilst sitting on my deck railing.

Functionally the same thing as a pet bird with a cuttlebone, it’s an easy calcium source.

More likely because their teeth never stop growing they need to chew on hard objects to wear them down.
I’ve seen them chew on small rocks in my backyard, and right now I have one that keeps eating our plastic garden shovel and I caught her chewing on some decorative coral pieces we have in planters.
Maybe put some bones out for them.
No cooked bones though, they become brittle and crack/crunch into pointy shards.
